A new poll from Yahoo News/YouGov shows that the Biden & Dem hopes for an approval turnaround ahead of the November midterms just isn’t happening. If anything the disapproval is accelerating:
As inflation keeps rising and recession fears loom, a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll shows that Joe Biden is currently in the worst shape of his presidency.
The survey of 1,541 U.S. adults, which was conducted from June 10-13, found that if another presidential election were held today, more registered voters say they would cast ballots for Donald Trump (44%) than for Biden (42%) — even though the House Jan. 6 committee has spent the last week linking Trump to what it called a “seditious conspiracy” to overturn the 2020 election and laying the groundwork for possible criminal prosecution.
Since Biden took office, no previous Yahoo News/YouGov poll has shown him trailing Trump (though Biden’s most recent leads have been within the margin of error, like this one is for Trump). One year ago, Biden led Trump by 9 percentage points.
What’s the best solution for Biden (and the Democrats) to save the party by the time the 2024 presidential election rolls around? According to a take in The Atlantic, Biden’s legacy would be polished and the Dems’ assisted if the president would just announce he won’t seek reelection:
"Aside from reinvigorating the Democrats, Biden could instantly burnish his own legacy by opting out of 2024. He would be praised for knowing when to step aside, for putting the interests of his party and country before himself…." — @MarkLeibovich:https://t.co/dg2s8MPWaJ

The only “legacy” Biden will have if he doesn’t run for a second term is as a president who wouldn’t run for reelection to avoid a landslide blowout after four years of wildly disastrous policies.
One doesn’t have to agree with this to recognize that this is a conversation many Democrats are having privately among themselves https://t.co/LhOJSJjzqg

It’s going GREAT for Biden! (Cue eye roll)

Most of the article in The Atlantic is about Biden’s age, but even if he was 50 years old and the economy was in the same condition, Dems would be calling on him not to run again. Why? Because they know it would be a landslide loss.
Charles C.W. Cooke had a great suggestion:
Valid points in this article. But most important to our democracy is preventing the return of Trump. I'm for whoever is best positioned to do that in 2024.
