Joe Scarborough's defense of Beto O'Rourke's sick stunt doesn't hold up to fact-checks from David Harsanyi and Charles Cooke

Earlier today, Texas gubernatorial candidate (and perpetual candidate for other political positions) Beto O’Rourke attempted to hijack a news conference featuring Gov. Greg Abbott and others who were providing updates on the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.

It was a shameless and disgusting stunt, even for O’Rourke:

Storming toward the stage where Abbott and local and state authorities were assembled, O’Rourke shamelessly and disgustingly tried to take advantage of Uvalde’s tragedy in some demented attempt to politicize the horror being felt in the community and get a clip of him being some sort of tough guy.

Senator Ted Cruz told O’Rourke to “sit down” and people in attendance could be heard shouting for O’Rourke to “go home.” The Democrat candidate for governor was condemned by Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin: “Sir, you’re out of line,” McLaughlin said repeatedly. “Please leave this auditorium. I can’t believe you’re a sick son of a bitch who would come to a deal like this to make a political issue,” he added.

Even though O’Rourke is getting hammered for what he did, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough defended him by saying the actual “sick” people were others on the stage:

David Harsanyi and Charles Cooke had heard just about enough:

Sadly for many pushing political narratives takes priority over discussing the facts and what can actually be done to prevent these tragedies in the future.

It’s come to this, unfortunately.
