We’ll kick this story off with a question directed at California Gov. Gavin Newsom:
Why don't you concentrate on California? WHY are you talking about other states?
— BreedsSF (@BreedsSf) April 22, 2022
The answer to that is simple. Newsom doesn’t WANT people to focus on his own state, so instead we end up with tweets like this revolving around the gov’s obsession with what’s going on in Florida:
Let me get this straight.
Desantis’ Disney/Don’t Say Gay retaliation bill could increase a million Floridians' property tax bill by 25%.
But go ahead and keep telling us about “fiscal responsibility” & your “business-friendly climate.” https://t.co/U7ACTMGJ6y

It’s hard to blame Newsom for wanting to keep all the focus on Florida considering what’s going on in his own state:

DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw called out Newsom’s BS:
He’s also spreading disinformation. Governor DeSantis said at the press conference yesterday that he thought this through beforehand and assured that Floridians won’t pay higher taxes but Disney would.

Florida stripping Disney of its special district designation has ironically triggered the “stop corporate welfare” crowd, and DeSantis has explained that Floridians won’t be paying higher taxes as a result:
“You’re a corporation based in Burbank, California, and you’re gonna marshal your economic might to attack the parents of my state,” DeSantis said Friday before signing the bill into law at a ceremony in Hialeah Gardens. “We view that as a provocation, and we’re going to fight back against that.”
DeSantis said Friday that the company would end up paying more taxes than it currently does and that the law isn’t expected to cause tax increases for residents around Disney.
There’s another way to look at this that Newsom won’t want to discuss:
Which state is gaining population, and which state is seeing declines in population? I rest my case.

Cue the crickets.
