This morning the FBI released a statement about the hostage situation on Saturday at Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue in Colleyville, Texas that runs counter to previous comments in an Associated Press report:
Newest FBI statement on Colleyville just in – per Fox’s @JakeBGibson: “This is a terrorism-related matter, in which the Jewish community was targeted, and is being investigated by the Joint Terrorism Task Force.”

An AP tweet yesterday that linked to a story quoting an FBI official said the following: “BREAKING: The FBI says the Texas synagogue hostage taker’s demands were specifically focused on issue not connected to the Jewish community.”
It’s looking like there was an initial attempt to set a narrative that nobody was buying because the backpedal has reached the point of tweets getting deleted:
The AP deleted an earlier tweet that quoted the FBI saying the hostage taker’s demands were about an issue not connected to the Jewish community.

So, a bit of “fake news” was originally put out there? What a shock.
Why did you delete the tweet. Was the reporting not accurate?

Did @AP misquote the FBI? Or did the FBI provide incorrect information to the press?
More likely, both the FBI and press realized that no one was buying the silly evasive language. https://t.co/CCElyC3svA

The AP’s story quoted an FBI official as well, but it appears that the original attempts to set a false narrative was a massive fail.

It's almost like having some basic reasoning skills would've led to a modicum of push back on the FBI for uttering such a nonsense statement that flew in the face of basic facts in the first place.
You know, actual journalism? pic.twitter.com/qEpjJnlOYN

Modern “journalism” involves passing along whatever the media’s told without question (unless the info is coming from select Republicans).
“We deleted a tweet that was the exact opposite of reality” would have also worked here but good on you guys.
