Earlier this month the Biden administration announced a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Olympics taking place in China in a few weeks. U.S. athletes will still be competing at the Games, however.
Japan has also announced that they won’t be sending a government delegation to China in February:
Japan says it will not send a government delegation to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing in February, a move likely to deepen tensions with China. https://t.co/fLVnNwl1yk

MSNBC senior producer Kyle Griffin caught some attention with this tweet describing the “alleged” reason for U.S. and Japan’s diplomatic boycott of the Olympics in China:
Japan has decided not to send senior officials to the Beijing Olympics in February — a move that will align it with the U.S. diplomatic boycott over China's alleged human rights abuses.

One word in that tweet caught so much attention that it trended on Twitter:

How many claims about Trump has MSNBC presented as fact while human rights abuses in China are only “alleged”?

His employer is broadcasting the Olympics so he can't exactly be honest with us.

NBC might frown upon any negative talk about China at this point in time:
You know, I think I'm starting to catch on as to why people at MSNBC blame American presidents for covid deaths over the country that literally caused all of this. https://t.co/EfP5HQQo0Y

So that’s the reason Griffin trod so lightly around the issue of China’s human rights abuses… allegedly.
2 Democrats in Congress sent a letter to NBCUniversal CEO in mid December calling for commitment from the broadcaster to provide background on human rights abuses over there in China during coverage of Olympics.

Alleged? China is actively engaging in genocide and forcing women to kill their nearly full-term babies in abortions.

NBC is so far in absolutely no danger of being prevented from covering the Games in China.
