WHO team headed to Wuhan to investigate Covid-19 origins unclear if China will try to 'prevent embarrassing discoveries'

It’s been about one year since the Covid-19 virus started making its way around the world, kicking off a pandemic that has taken many lives and had a crippling effect on economies due to government lockdowns and shutdowns.

At this point, the World Health Organization has dispatched a team to Wuhan, China, and the AP reports that they’re not clear if the leadership there will try and cover anything up:

From the Associated Press:

A global team of researchers arrived Thursday in the Chinese city where the coronavirus pandemic was first detected to conduct a politically sensitive investigation into its origins amid uncertainty about whether Beijing might try to prevent embarrassing discoveries.

The group sent to Wuhan by the World Health Organization was approved by President Xi Jinping’s government after months of diplomatic wrangling that prompted an unusual public complaint by the head of WHO.

For the WHO and the media there might be some things that remain “unclear,” but not for many others:

We’re just guessing, but now the WHO will be able to say “we checked it out and found nothing.”

That’s very likely.
