AP fact check finds that 'Biden did not eulogize former KKK grand wizard' Robert Byrd (guess why)

In the past we’ve seen example after example of how the media “fact checkers” bend over backwards to find angles that will help them rate claims about Democrats as being at least partly false.

The latest example comes courtesy of the Associated Press and has a headline intended to bail Joe Biden out of accusations that he delivered the eulogy for “former KKK grand wizard Robert Byrd”:

And why is it incorrect to say Biden eulogized a “former KKK grand wizard”? Because Byrd had a different job title, as the AP got to eventually:

See what they did here?

Biden did eulogize Sen. Robert C. Byrd when he died, but Byrd was not a “grand wizard” in the Ku Klux Klan.
[…]
As a young man in West Virginia, Byrd recruited members to a local KKK chapter and was elected to the post of “exalted cyclops” according to his 2005 autobiography.

Another day brings with it another example of the media twisting themselves into a pretzel to run cover for a Democrat:

The AP packaged that perfectly (for Biden) for those who didn’t read past the headline:

And it’s completely intentional.

If Trump had delivered the eulogy for Byrd, would the AP’s headline have been the same? Yeah, we didn’t think so either.
