There’s an old quote that goes “a lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.” The tweet below from Fox News reporter Jen Griffin about what Ken Starr said on the same cable network helped serve as another example of that:
As many tweeters noted, Starr was mostly paraphrasing what Rep. Adam Schiff said during a break in today’s impeachment inquiry hearings:
This description of what was said is wrong
Starr was talking about Chairman Adam Schiff’s words
Starr: “Substantively, what we heard from the Chairman just now is ‘it’s over,’ I mean this is his position, ‘we now know that the president in fact committed the crime of bribery’” https://t.co/aR5Al1EDx7 pic.twitter.com/0BLKNwiGcQ

This is fake news.
Starr said that "this is his [Adam Schiff's] position." He was not giving his own. https://t.co/NDcgudqizB pic.twitter.com/fHxvg3sO3M

I believe the first part of this (‘bribery’) was Starr paraphrasing Dem Chairman Schiff. The latter part (‘bombshell’) was Starr’s own characterization. https://t.co/OT2LMfjSwg

Newp. He was paraphrasing Schiff. Don't mislead.

Griffin did later offer clarifications:
Clarification: Ken Starr was interpreting what Cong Adam Schiff was now thinking after hearing the Sondland testimony, which Starr described as a bombshell, adding that he would expect new articles of impeachment to be drawn up as a result. https://t.co/2l4IWTK6oL

Clarification: Starr was quoting Schiff in the first part of what he said below, but added that he would assume new articles of impeachment would now be drawn up, describing today’s testimony as “bombshell.” https://t.co/9bMeBAvZqV

The original tweet currently stands at 6,600 retweets, and both clarifications currently add up to just over 400 retweets.
over 5,000 retweets of the lie…only a few retreets of the correction. #fakenewsfox

After 13,000 likes, 5,000 retweets. She clarifies. Another reason why Trump is going nowhere.

How many likes and retweets are you waiting for with the original tweet before you delete it?
