'That's not the reason': Jake Tapper tells Seth Meyers why he thinks GOPers won't go on CNN after shootings (and people have thoughts)

Earlier this month, CNN hosted another gun control town hall, and for some reason inexplicable to people at the network, many Republicans didn’t want to take part. Ditto for invitations to appear on Jake Tapper’s “State of the Union” shows in the wake of shootings in El Paso and Dayton. According to Tapper, who was on the Seth Meyers show this week, this is the reason GOPers avoided his show:

Tapper, after explaining how many Republicans were invited on his CNN show after the El Paso ana Dayton shootings, offered a theory why so many declined. Transcript via Newsbusters (video is at the link):

MEYERS: And do you — is that, like, a very fast no you get from them? Are you surprised when they say no or is this what you’ve come to expect, especially with an issue like gun control where there’s very little they could probably say in the wake of the tragedy.

TAPPER: In fact, we have Republicans on State of the Union all the time. In fact, we did end up having the governor of Ohio on, like, a day or two later, on The Lead. But yeah, I don’t think Republicans like to talk after gun massacres, because I don’t think they have a lot of answers as to why they hold a position that, you know, for instance on universal background checks. 90% of the American people support universal background checks, a majority of Republicans, a majority of NRA members. So why wouldn’t you support that? And I think they don’t want to talk about it.

Is that so? In short, NOPE:

If CNN hosts paid more attention to what’s been on CNN, it might provide more of a clue:

CNN’s show trial for the NRA and 2nd Amendment supporters while letting then-Sheriff Scott Israel spout gun control talking points and accuse others being irresponsible and negligent before he was eventually fired for the same reasons was one of the more shameless moments in modern “journalism.”
