President Trump has announced that the nomination of Rep. John Ratcliffe to be the next director of national intelligence is being withdrawn:
Our great Republican Congressman John Ratcliffe is being treated very unfairly by the LameStream Media. Rather than going through months of slander and libel, I explained to John how miserable it would be for him and his family to deal with these people….
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 2, 2019
….John has therefore decided to stay in Congress where he has done such an outstanding job representing the people of Texas, and our Country. I will be announcing my nomination for DNI shortly.

Trump said he’ll announce another nomination soon. In the meantime, CNN’s Brian Stelter has credited the media:
Trump nominated @RepRatcliffe on Sunday; reporters spent several days vetting him and pointing out how he padded his resume; and now the nomination is no more. More proof of the power of real reporting.

Is that a victory lap? It seems a little like a victory lap:

This assumes that Trump pulled the nomination because what was reported about Ratcliffe bothered him. Other strong possibility is he saw that media was going to continue going hard at Ratcliffe and didn't want to deal with the headache. https://t.co/Ezr6RfeX8g

Now try “real reporting” on one of the (D) party

vet Brian Williams, Mike Barnicle, Marty Barron and Dan Rather

Perhaps Stelter will have Dan Rather and Michael Avenatti on the next “Reliable Sources” to discuss the “real reporting” events of the day.
