ABC News chief political analyst Matthew Dowd has referred to the GOP tax plan as “unfair and mean-spirited,” but he’s offered one suggestion on how to make things fairer:
How about this for an idea: no corporation or company should get a tax cut which has any employee on public assistance. If you don’t pay your employees a living wage, you shouldn’t get a tax cut.

Believe it or not, many armchair liberal economists gave Dowd’s plan a thumbs-up, while others spotted immediate backfire:

A subsequent five seconds' thought would have revealed to him how dumb an idea this is. But who has five extra seconds on Twitter? https://t.co/lxAa6pW48F

I love these cockamamie populist econ plans that will be a mild-to-major inconvenience for the giant corporations the left hates, but will be a devastating killer of small businesses. Give yourself a round of applause. https://t.co/P5hB71jjMC

Does this public assistance count VA benefits, disability benefits, Social Security, the earned income tax credit, LIHEAP? Medicaid? Foster Care or Adoption Assistance? (The income limit for NJ's publicly funded health insurance program is $7,278/month for a family of four.) https://t.co/PXpUke3n1g

I see no possible economic ramifications of this at all. This has no way of backfiring.
