'Just a lie’: Vox slammed for claiming Clarence Thomas said slavery was 'just fine for human dignity'

Here’s a portion of what Thomas wrote in his dissenting opinion in the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage:

The corollary of that principle is that human dignity cannot be taken away by the government. Slaves did not lose their dignity (any more than they lost their humanity) because the government allowed them to be enslaved. Those held in internment camps did not lose their dignity because the government confined them. And those denied governmental benefits certainly do not lose their dignity because the government denies them those benefits. The government cannot bestow dignity, and it cannot take it away.”

A Voxsplainer summed it up this way:

Yes, you read that correctly. He said that slavery did not have any impact on enslaved people’s dignity.

They left out a key component, didn’t they?

The tweet was even more disingenuous:

Thomas said slavery was among things that were “just fine for human dignity”?

That of course is not what Thomas wrote, but it didn’t matter by then because Vox had already further successfully perpetuated the Left’s narrative about Clarence Thomas:

Meanwhile, those who actually read what Thomas wrote saw it differently:

Thomas wrote that government cannot bestow or take away human dignity, but Vox ignored that to try and score some cheap points.

They’re too busy Vox-splaining the world to everybody.
