GLAAD, which was founded in 1985 to counter false news reporting about gay people, has slowly turned into a discount outlet mall for Teen Vogue.
Built on the idea that journalism should be unbiased, and coverage of gay issues should be accurate and transparent, in 2024, its Director of Communications, Tony Morrison, instead mocks and shames a journalist reporting facts he doesn't like.
It’s awful to hate yourself so much to write about junk science just to make yourself feel good.

And as if writing for the Post is “journalism.”

What's all this epic shade about, you ask?
No, Youth Gender-Transition Treatment Is Not 'Life Saving', Study Finds
— Benjamin Ryan (@benryanwriter) February 24, 2024
The first ever study to test the widely made claim that youth medical gender-transition treatment prevents suicide deaths found no such evidence, I report for @NYPost. 🧵⬇️ https://t.co/TE9oT9DU3S
Benjamin Ryan, a widely published health and science reporter, who tends to lean left, but is otherwise independent, simply reported that medical science is slowly re-evaluating the actual effectiveness of youth transgender medical interventions, now that we've had time to see results.
LGBTQ activists are outraged.
Why would they be so upset over new developments on the subject?
The movement backing gender-transition treatment for kids is built on the claim that it's “life saving.” Groups that claim this: @ACLU @GLAAD @HRC @WPATH @AmerAcadPeds @AmerMedicalAssn. But no one's tried to figure out whether this claim is true. Until now pic.twitter.com/xX7UVVlPwF

Ah.
Now it makes more sense.
Their argument? Including actual suicides and associated psychiatric data in a study about suicide discredits the study on suicide!
Wait what?
4. The new study says gender affirming care does NOT save lives. It introduces a new variable into a statistical model: visits to a psychiatric specialist.
— Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) February 25, 2024
After adjusting for this, the link between gender clinic referrals and suicide disappears.
but wait, there's a problem...
5. If you add "psychiatric visits" to a model predicting suicide, you end up overcontrolling by measuring the same thing.
— Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) February 25, 2024
People who commit suicide also are extremely likely to have a history of psychiatric visits.
6. According to leading researcher, Dr. McNamara, this is a critical flaw that "amounts to a tautology."
— Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) February 25, 2024
By adjusting for suicide in research aimed at determining the effect of gender-affirming care on suicide, the authors controlled for the very outcome they sought to measure.
Reed cites a 2022 study on transgender suicidality claiming 'trans care,' saves lives by 73%. The difference? This study measured self-reports of thoughts of suicide in 104 transgender youth patients, the majority of which had multiple severe psychological distress cofactors such as anxiety disorders and depression.
They asked them before affirmative treatment and then after.
The Finnish study looked at actual reported suicides and the interventions used beforehand.
Junk science? No a survey is junk science as it doesn’t follow the scientific method at all, year that is what yall use to promote GAC as “life saving,” as if it’s a forgone conclusion that a child will kill themself, when the reality is that 90% will grow out of their gender…

Junk science? No a survey is junk science as it doesn’t follow the scientific method at all, year that is what yall use to promote GAC as “life saving,” as if it’s a forgone conclusion that a child will kill themself, when the reality is that 90% will grow out of their gender questioning phase by the age of 20.
So, the study that looked at transgender patients who committed suicide after treatment to determine psychiatric concerns and effectiveness is 'junk science,' but asking kids if they feel better after receiving affirmation and what they're told will cure their anxiety and allow them to be their 'true selves' is real science.
But that disrupts the narrative so the journalist reporting the study must be publicly discredited and shamed!
Tony, do you really think Benjamin Ryan's reporting on youth gender medicine can be attributed to internalized homophobia on his part? Isn't that a pretty big claim to publicly launch from your perch as a senior comms person at an international activist organization?
— Jesse Singal (@jessesingal) February 26, 2024
Any half-decent human would be happy that confused kids aren’t killing themselves in gender distress in the numbers you and your chums always claim. But you actually *need* them to be suicidal, don’t you, otherwise your whole grift falls over. You are a monster. We won’t forget.
— Simon Edge (@simonjedge) February 26, 2024
"junk science" just because it disagrees with your ideology.
— Free Speech Is Not Hate Speech (@FreeSpeechMonk) February 26, 2024
When you make no attempt to debate the actual merits of the argument, and instead attack the person's character, that means you've lost the debate and shown that your position is indefensible.
Every major study surrounding suicide in trans youth promoted by LGBTQ activists and organizations relies on self-reports. Every study they denounce and discredit looks at real numbers of actual suicides, health outcomes, psychiatric visits and care and other tangible medical evaluations of mental health.
Mr. Ryan's thread is quite detailed, yet you haven't bothered to reference one point made in it or the article. Kinda makes your post look like nothing other than the snit of a troll.
— Red (@ncaipics) February 26, 2024
Grow up.
This is your way of enforcing ideological conformity by punishing those who go outside the accepted positions.
— James-dsd (@XyDmu) February 26, 2024
Defaming gay journalists is a bad look for an organization founded to counter defamation of gays. Accusing gay journalists of internalized homophobia for reporting on science that has nothing to do with being gay is non-sensical and overtly homophobic.
— Dudley Snyder (@DudleyNYC) February 26, 2024
Bully and shame.
Intimidate and accuse.
Isolate and exile.
It's all the LGBTQ left does anymore when faced with challenges to their ideology. Once highly respected organizations are now run by extreme activists interested only in using their power and influence to force their views to be the only accepted truth.
The few journalists and scientists remaining out there willing to report accurate information can only take this bullying for so long.
