UK LGBTQ Charity to Slash Staff In Half After Trump Cuts Off Foreign Aid

Twitter

Shutting down USAID froze billions of taxpayer dollars that were sent overseas. The United States Agency for International Development is "responsible for administering civilian foreign aid and development assistance." I learned from one poster that the transgender opera in Colombia didn't receive a dime from USAID — the money came straight from the State Department. There were plenty of other examples, though. A former administrator warned that shutting down USAID would unleash "famines across the globe" leading to mass migration to Europe and the United States. This former administrator must have been asleep for the past decade — we've already seen mass migration well before USAID was frozen.

Our sister site Townhall reported that $5.5 million was granted to "improve the lives of LGBT individuals" in Uganda, while a whopping $37.67 million was allocated for providing "services" to prostitutes, their clients, and "transgender"-identifying people. How about $6 million on the "social inclusion of LGBTQ+ people" in countries around the world. How about $14.9 million to "enhance the leadership" of LGBT leaders in Cambodia?

I think I'm sensing a pattern here. Millions of dollars were sent overseas to help the LGBTQ community in the Western Balkans, North Macedonia, Honduras, Bosnia and Herzegovina … essentially everywhere.

I read today that Stonewall … an LGBTQ charity in the United Kingdom … was suffering from the drastic cuts.

The Times of London reports:

Stonewall could be forced to cut up to half of its staff after President Trump’s decision to freeze foreign aid, The Times understands.

Workers at the LGBTQ+ charity were told on Thursday that restructuring would take place, and that only roles with dedicated funding would be safe.

Simon Blake, the chief executive of Stonewall, made the announcement in an office-wide Teams call, which was said to have left its 114 staff “shellshocked”.

Sources said they believed up to half of the workforce could be made redundant in the move, which they were told would “secure the future of Stonewall for the long term as a significant LGBTQ+ organisation able to deliver impactful campaigns and legislative change across the UK and further afield”.

Insiders believed the announcement was linked to decisions made by Trump over the provision of foreign aid. Blake has previously warned of the impact Trump’s move would have on Stonewall’s operations.

Good. The obvious question: Why was the United States taxpayer paying for half the staff of a U.K. LGBTQ organization? Is the U.K. out of money to fund this crucial resource?

USAID wasted plenty of money in the U.S. with subscriptions to POLITICO and such. But rather than being a resource for international development, it seems it was primarily a funding source for LGBTQ organizations overseas.

I don't want taxpayer money going toward LGBTQ programs in the United States, let alone the United Kingdom. Forgive me if I don't care that half of Stonewall's staff might be cut.
