There's still a market for print media out there, which is tricky news for journalists who like the ability to stealth-edit their stories and headlines online. The New York Times tried out three headlines when reporting on the "bombing" of a hospital in Gaza by an Israeli airstrike, finally settling on "there was a blast."
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan had a piece published in Foreign Affairs about the Middle East that happened to go to print before Oct. 7, when Hamas terrorists killed some 1,400 Israelis. Jeremy Stern notes that Sullivan was allowed to tinker with the online version, which leaves out gems like these:
Jake Sullivan wrote an essay for Foreign Affairs that went to print before Oct 7. For the online version that came out yesterday, they let him not just add new material but scrub the sections embarrassed by events. “The Israeli-Palestinian situation is tense, particularly in the West Bank, but in the face of serious frictions, we have de-escalated crises in Gaza and restored direct diplomacy between the parties after years of its absence.” (2/6)

When did this happen?
When Biden became president, “US troops were under regular attack in Iraq and Syria…Such attacks, at least for now, have largely stopped.” (3/6)

Biden’s “disciplined approach frees up resources for other global priorities, reduces the risk of new Middle Eastern conflicts, and ensures that US interests are protected on a far more sustainable basis.” (4/6)

It's laughable to think of the Biden administration and "America first." Since when do they care about U.S. interests?

“We have acted militarily to protect US personnel, and we have enhanced deterrence, combined with diplomacy, to discourage further [Iranian] aggression.” (5/6)

“the region is quieter than it has been for decades. The progress is fragile, to be sure. But it is also not an accident... [Biden's] approach returns discipline to US policy. It emphasizes deterring aggression, de-escalating conflicts, and integrating the region...” (6/6)

@JakeSullivan46 looks embarrassingly wrong here. Or was it always just more Biden-pumping narratives?

It's always a bad idea for a society to allow the unworthy and mendacious to rise to positions of prominence.

It is outright dangerous to allow thugs and clowns to rule.

Literally one of the most unqualified people. Just can't.

This is interesting not only b/c it shows Team Biden's massive Mideast miscalculation, but b/c it shows Acela Corridor policy elites willing to scrub the record to avoid accountability. He's the serving NSA - let him write a new essay to accept he was wrong and chart a new path.

I’ve no beef with Sullivan who struck me as just a wildly overpromoted purveyor of conventional wisdom but the entire tone here so captures the arrogance of the left’s technocratic mindset - the grownups are back in charge - that it’s hard to suppress a sneer of utter contempt.

The funny part is these were all blatant lies even before the events of Oct 7.

So we have the Biden administration deescalating the tensions between Israel and Gaza that reached a boiling point under President Trump.
Is the anyone in the administration who's good at what they do?
