There’s a saying going around Twitter: “You don’t hate the media enough.” And it’s true — the mainstream media continues to be even worse than you think it is. We reported today about CNN reporters and USA TODAY spreading the news about Amanda Gorman’s inauguration poem being banned from a Florida school. Their source? A statement by Amanda Gorman posted to Twitter. And as I mentioned in an earlier post, the usual suspects all reported that Elon Musk was blocking links to an unflattering story on NPR … when it turned out the NPR reporter had posted the wrong URL and it was entirely his fault.
It’s tough for us at Twitchy because we scan Twitter for stories, and Twitter lies. And it usually turns out that a story that sounds fake — like the banning of that poem — usually is.
ThinkProgress founder Judd Legum has moved to the notoriously right-wing platform Substack to pursue his journalism. He got really pissed when he got hit with Community Notes on his 100% ACCURATE TWEET on D.C. crime — and then he got hit with more Community Notes.
We’ve all been assured that white supremacy is the biggest threat to our nation, and Legum is reporting on a young indigenous woman who was run down — murdered — by an alleged white supremacist.
1. This is Mika Westwolf, a 22-year-old Indigenous woman
On March 31, she was killed when an alleged white nationalist ran her over on the side of a highway
Her killer is not currently facing any charges for killing Mika
Mika matters
This is her story

I know nothing of this alleged incident but I do not believe anything this person says https://t.co/ANpLslVSQy

I’m with Kurt Schlicter on this one … I’ve heard nothing about the story but don’t trust Legum’s reporting one bit. I’m not even going to paste in the whole thread. I’m just going to share what I found out trying to verify it.
There’s a report in The Missoulian about the incident. It reads:
As people in the tribal community sought answers to what happened to Westwolf, members reached out to the Montana Human Rights Network. The organization said, in an online statement, [Sunny] White’s children’s names “clearly indicate her support for white nationalist ideals.”
“In further research, MHRN came across information that lent credibility to claims that Sunny White ascribes to extremist, White nationalist ideology,” the human rights network wrote online.
Citing their own research and community reports, the organization also called on Montana Highway Patrol to fully investigate the incident, which they characterized as a murder, “including White’s possible motivations, and for prosecutors to pursue hate crimes charges if they apply.”
The police said Sunny White had her 2-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter in the car at the time, and according to the Montana Human Rights Network, the children’s names “clearly indicate her support for white nationalist ideals.” What are the kids’ names, Adolf and Eva? You won’t believe me when I tell you.
The Missoulian links to an online statement by MHRN, which reads:
Last week, multiple Flathead-area community members reported to MHRN that an Indigenous woman was murdered by an alleged White nationalist. According to community reports, the White nationalist intentionally ran down the Indigenous woman with a vehicle.
…
In further research, MHRN came across information that lent credibility to claims that Sunny White ascribes to extremist, White nationalist ideology.
…
Her children’s names clearly indicate her support for white nationalist ideals. Her four-year-old daughter is named “Aryan,” and her two-year-old son is named “Nation.”
…
Since the investigation is ongoing, there are still many unanswered questions. One of those questions is whether this murder was premeditated, as some claim. A current rumor is that White told the arresting officer that she had come to the Flathead Reservation to kill an Indigenous person.
So even MHRN is going by “current rumor.”
Listen, it’s possible a woman with kids named Aryan and Nation (if those are their names) is a white nationalist. But they’re saying a white nationalist deliberately took off in her car with her kids in it with the intention of running over an Indigenous person, and just happened to find one walking along the highway? It was premeditated? Was she driving slowly enough to determine her victim was Native American? What?
Maybe the mainstream media will pick up the story now that Legum’s busted it wide open.
