Reporter posts 'bombshell' late-night texts with 'incendiary monologist' Tucker Carlson

For once, it isn’t Media Matters posting behind-the-scenes videos from Tucker Carlson’s time at Fox News and making him look even cooler. We find it hard to believe that Media Matters thought it was onto something when Carlson joked about pillow fights in the ladies’ room with the woman doing his makeup. Carlson tells jokes, and they seem to go over a lot of people’s heads. Mattathias Schwartz was texting with Carlson for a piece for Business Insider when Carlson joked about running in 2024. What a scoop!

“I can appreciate a good troll.” That’s good.

Schwartz writes:

Carlson’s rash messages come as the incendiary monologist attempts to rebrand himself as a full-time Twitter personality after 14 years on Fox News, which fired him earlier this month. Carlson’s show became a kind of ideological North Star for the embittered and racialized nationalism that propelled Donald Trump into the White House and then incubated the Trump movement’s conspiracy theories and insatiable sense of outrage in the wake of his 2020 election loss.

On Fox, Carlson stoked hatred of undocumented immigrants, glossed over the violence of the January 6 insurrection, and criticized US support for Ukraine. His fans are 63% male and 66% white, according to a survey by Morning Consult. Before he was fired — for reasons that range from sending a racist text message to allegations of misogyny and bullying — he was earning roughly $25 million a year. By moving his show to Twitter, Carlson reportedly stands to lose millions in severance for breaking a noncompete clause in his contract.

First, CNN’s Oliver Darcy should step up his game; “incendiary monologist” (and “far-right firebrand”) is way classier than “right-wing extremist.” And second, that bit about Carlson “sending a racist text message” links to Business Insider’s coverage of Carlson’s scandalous “that’s not how white men fight” tweet, which was about as shocking as the latest corruption charges against Joe Biden.

He had his hit piece all written and just needed something from Carlson himself — and then he thought he had an “earthshaking scoop.” Go back to reporting on Bide’s scoops of chocolate chocolate chip.
