As promised by Elon Musk, Twitter on Thursday removed all of the legacy blue checks, which had some liberals rending their garments. We don’t write about @SCOTUSblog very often, but they allege that they’re leaving Twitter, partly in solidarity with NPR, which couldn’t abide being labeled “government-funded media.” We say allege because a whole lot of accounts said they were leaving if Musk purchased Twitter.
The breaking point was having to pay the eight bucks for the blue check.
Bye, Twitter. 🥺 The tipping point was having to pay for verification, when we feel we add a lot of value. We also feel solidarity with NPR, and share concerns about Twitter’s direction. You can find us on the blog and TikTok. If we join another platform, we’ll send word here. 🫡

Wait … how will you send word “here” if you’re leaving Twitter?

You must not feel like you add a lot of value. You could become a paid account.

If 8 bucks is a breaking point how the hell do you afford internet and hardware? TIA

Definitely worthwhile to retreat to the moral high ground that is . . . . TikTok.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Can you at least reveal the leaker of the Roe decision before you leave? If you really do blog about #SCOTUS

$8? Y'all are poor. Working 3 jobs?
— New Sons of Liberty (@NSOL_USA) April 20, 2023
This is quite pathetic.

It's not an airport, you don't have to announce your departure.

You can just leave without telling anyone.

When you have an update on the leaker, maybe we’ll care.

You’d rather post on a platform controlled by the Chinese Communist Party than Twitter. Got it.

Bye, Felicia.

Yeah I like to get my SCOTUS news from dancing interns on TikTok

And the political preference veil is lifted

A less partisan alternative will fill the gap in the market if there was one.

TikTok? Seriously?
— Amy (@amyserwinowski) April 20, 2023
Seems like a poor decision, I only consume your content via Twitter. I hope you reconsider or offer a subscription offering to offset the $8/month.
Or you can use the platform without the blue check!

We’re surprised they hadn’t already set up a Mastodon account when that was where everyone cool was going. The 12-year-olds who watch TikTok will appreciate the new content, we’re sure.
