Back when critical race theory was in the crosshairs thanks to activists like Christopher Rufo, liberals insisted that critical race theory wasn’t taught in public schools, only in law schools. Why should they have a problem with it being banned, then, if it’s not being taught? Well, you just don’t understand what critical race theory is. Rufo knew damn well what it was and made sure parents knew too, but just as people thought the “Don’t Say Gay” bill meant it would be illegal to say the word “gay,” they were also lied to and told that a ban on critical race theory meant a ban on the teaching of slavery and Jim Crow. That was the liberal shorthand: They’re trying to ban the teaching of slavery.
MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell sat down with Vice President Kamala Harris and brought up DeSantis and his desire that slavery not be taught in schools — even though it’s mandated by the state’s board of education.
MITCHELL: "What does Gov. Ron DeSantis not know…when he says that slavery and the aftermath…should not be taught to…schoolchildren?"
HARRIS: "Any push to censor America's teachers, and tell them what they should be teaching…is wrongheaded." pic.twitter.com/JKFrpV856O

Slavery aside, “any push to … tell them what they should be teaching … is wrongheaded”? Um, ever heard of a thing called a curriculum? Expectations for certain grade levels? What an idiot.
“Unless we’re the ones telling them what they should be teaching”

What if the teacher bore his/her Christian testimony to the kids; would that be censored?
— DanL (@DLlor40) February 17, 2023
Madam, they're not the teachers' kids. It's the parents' jobs to make sure the teachers teach truth to their kids, not woke nonsense.

A question based on a false premise never bears the fruit of truth.

It would be refreshing to see Mitchell interview DeSantis and ask him. Of course, that isn't the point here, is it.

So why are there all these federal and state standards that tell teachers what they must be teaching?
— Energetic Procession (@Acolyte83349490) February 17, 2023
The teachers must have parameters.

Wow, now we are starting on the DeSantis myths
— Doh! (@jakline98) February 18, 2023
This is a lie and teachers don’t get to decide curriculum for students.
— gigi (@GailC4freedom) February 17, 2023
If any push to tell teachers what to teach is truly wrong headed why do we need a department of education?
— Barry Fahey (@Fahey9Fahey) February 17, 2023
Didn't the federal government push common core a few years ago in an attempt to force teachers into all teaching the same curriculum?
— Nomad in the desert (@NomadAZ2022) February 18, 2023
Please provide a citation where Gov. DeSantis advocates not teaching about "slavery or the aftermath". You have none. This is dishonest.

They are both wrong.

They're only lying to the people that still believe them and they know it. They don't even try anymore.
— Steve Gregory (@SteveGr15825996) February 18, 2023
They really don’t. It’s like the Harry Reid approach to lying about Mitt Romney’s taxes … “It worked, didn’t it?”
So if a teacher doesn’t want to teach about slavery, making them do it would be “wrongheaded,” right?
