Devout Catholic Joe Biden says not even US bishops oppose taxpayer-funded abortion

Presidential candidate and devout Catholic Joe Biden flip-flopped — hard — on the campaign trail when it came to the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer dollars funding abortions. “I have consistently — on no fewer than 50 occasions — voted against federal funding of abortions,” Biden wrote in 1994, but in May 2019 he changed his mind, telling the press that as president he would lift the Hyde Amendment. In June, his campaign co-chair told CNN’s Chris Cuomo how the “deeply religious” Biden remained firm in his unwavering commitment to upholding the Hyde Amendment. Then another Biden aide was dispatched to CNN to clear things up.

On Monday, a reporter from Catholic news network EWTN asked Biden about Catholic bishops opposing the taxpayer funding of abortions, which Biden denied. Not even the pope opposed it.

They aren’t? That’s funny, because on Friday, they wrote a letter saying they are:

The U.S. bishops are urging Congress to permanently ban the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion through the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act.

Bishop Michael Burbidge of Arlington, Virgina, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Pro-Life Committee, issued a letter Friday to House and Senate leaders supporting the legislation to permanently ban taxpayer funding of abortion.

In his letter, Burbidge said that the “government should never fund the destruction of innocent preborn children” and that “congressional action is required.”

You’d think devout Catholic Biden would have heard about that at Mass on Sunday.

He and his “Catholic sister” Nancy Pelosi.

Maybe the bishops should have sent a copy of the letter to the White House in hopes that someone might get it to the big guy.
