As Twitchy reported back on December 23, parent Asra Nomani learned that her son was a National Merit Commended Scholar … two years after he earned the award. It seems it was all about the school’s push for equity and targeted Asian students.
That’s a big deal — national merit awards look very good on college applications, and there are national merit scholarships on the line.
You’ll see some tweets here that 13 Northern Virginia schools have been found to have delayed notifications, but according to 7News DC, the number jumped to 16 on Tuesday:
Two Prince William County Public Schools admitted to failing to notify students of national merit awards in time for college scholarship deadlines.
The list now grows to 13 schools in Northern Virginia.https://t.co/15pT4hpUVs

The Hill reports that Gov. Glenn Youngkin has knocked schools over their “maniacal focus” on equality.
Yeah except no he didn't do that. https://t.co/b8U8nxFJFP pic.twitter.com/LMtT2H3UOc

Yeah, he didn’t do that. He called out their maniacal focus on “equity.” Equality is equally distributed opportunity — equity is equally distributed outcomes.
What we’ve found from news reports is that our schools have a maniacal focus on equal outcomes rather than rewarding high-performing students. This effort of withholding academic achievements is hurting the same students school officials claim they are trying to help. pic.twitter.com/4s4Kguw5gk

"Recall that the Youngkin victory was fueled partly by the defection of Asian parents from the GOP*, who were sick of their kids being taught CRT crap and being disadvantaged in school."
And that was *before* they know about the Merit Award suppressions.
*Probably a typo.

Equal opportunity NOT equal outcome. You don’t put in the effort you don’t reap the rewards
— Mike Ship (@GreyF1r3) January 17, 2023
Equal outcome is impossible because it requires equal effort. Equal effort for all school children is impossible to achieve unless you base your standards on the lowest performers. When you take cues from IXK what do you expect?

Equity is an Orwellian farce.
If you were to proclaim in the public square in 1860 that you believed in treating all races and classes equally, you’d be branded a radical
If you proclaim that today, you are accused of being backwards and reactionary

Either everyone is named a national merit scholar or nobody is, all in the name of “equity.”
This scandal, hiding National Merit awards from kids, emerges as @FCPSSupt @FCPSNews board launches a plan for “equal outcomes for every student, without exception,” with “equitable grading,” giving students 50% just for showing up. @FFXParentsAssoc recently exposed the policy. pic.twitter.com/MPCZsRFKgV
