The word “pornographic” gets put in scare quotes a lot (like right here) when discussing books that are finding their way into schools’ libraries and recommended reading lists. “Gender Queer” is probably the most cited, but we’ve never run a picture of the offending pages because, well, they’re pornographic … but easily found on Twitter. “Blankets” is another graphic novel, and we’ll run a picture of the inside, only because it’s less explicit (and the pictures are small enough that you can’t make out all of the penises).
Libs of TikTok reports that a father was banned from school grounds after complaining at a school board meeting about “Blankets.” “… it has been determined that you have committed one or more acts that interfere with the peaceful conduct of activities on District property,” the letter from the superintendent reads. “Should you fail to leave the school grounds immediately … the School District will have no alternative but to take such legal action as is necessary to maintain a peaceful educational and work environment.”
This must be one of those domestic terrorists Attorney General Merrick Garland was warning us about.
SCOOP: We spoke to a father who confronted his daughter’s principal in @OwassoSchools about a pornographic book “Blankets” which depicts sex, masturbation, and a child getting raped.
The principal responded by calling the police and the father being BANNED from school grounds. pic.twitter.com/NIS9tPwdfa

The father told us that when he asked the principal if she thought the content in “Blankets” was ok for children she replied, “I'm offended by your questions”
Now this dad can’t pick up his kids without written permission because he doesn’t want his child reading porn in school.

Sounds like it’s time for a change in administration.

Lawsuit for violating child exploitation laws is in order.
Maybe some arrests as well.

The Principal should be arrested not the father. These people push porn on underage children, why?

Thank you. My daughter does go to this school. It looks like I need to speak with someone.

From the article:
Timothy Reiland, a parent of two children who attend Owasso Public Schools, recently became upset after his daughter checked out a book, “Blankets,” from the Owasso school library. Reiland considered portions of the book to be pornographic.
As a result, he began advocating for the school to alter its library policies. When the Owasso school board held its Oct. 12 board meeting, Reiland was in attendance, believing the board was prepared to vote on a new policy that would restrict “pornographic content” from the school library.
Instead, the policy presented did not include a pornographic restriction and the board members tabled the vote. Board members instead announced the issue would be taken up at a special meeting closed to the public.
Following the meeting, Reiland spoke to Owasso school board member Brent England in the school parking lot. The exchange included the use of profanity but was not violent, according to witness accounts referenced in the judge’s order.
So profanity in a conversation with a school board member is a bannable offense, but pornographic books in the school library are fine. Is is too much to ask that books be age-appropriate?
