We reported on this earlier today from a story by the New York Times: “Election officials in Nevada say that they have been flooded by thousands of mail-in ballots, and that it may take several days to count the votes and upload results.” What, exactly, is several days? According to RealClearPolitics’ Susan Crabtree, results in Nevada might not be finalized until November 18.
Keep in mind that Florida managed to count its votes and declare the winners by 8 p.m.
This is important, because a Senate race hangs in the balance; add to that the runoff election in Georgia, which won’t take place until December.
Some of us stayed up all night in NV so you didn't have to!
Just after 1 am PST cheers broke out at Red Rocks Hotel where the Laxalt/Lombardo party had ended with a tossup whimper roughly an hr before.Big shift: Laxalt now in lead by >20K.
Laxalt: 49.9
Cortez Masto 47.2— Susan Crabtree (@susancrabtree) November 9, 2022
All comes down to outstanding Clark County mail-in ballots — yet to be counted. If they are higher than 100,000, then Cortez Masto likely would benefit. If they number less than 70,000, Laxalt could keep his lead and win, according to @RalstonReports

Clark County, what’s the deal? Why are you holding up the entire state?
Nevada election official says it could take until Nov. 18 to count all the votes and finalize results.

Republican Adam Laxalt currently holds the lead at just short of 50 percent … but we have to wait for those mail-in ballots to be counted. Maybe it’s just this editor’s memory failing him, but didn’t the point of voting by mail used to be that you were either going to be out of the country on Election Day or too old and frail to make it to the polling place?

AKA “how can we hide the actual results?”

Weird. It's not like there are any industries in Nevada famous for making quick calculations and dealing with numbers. Guess they just don't have the technology there! pic.twitter.com/9JJcEocANn

It’s this kind of 💩 that lends itself to having a lack of faith in the results. Absolutely no reason in this day and age to take that long.

Update:
56,900.
That's the drop box number, lower than the Ds had hoped for.
Add to 27K Gloria announced today and it's about 84K in mail we know have yet to be counted in Clark and 57K in Washoe for a total of 141,000 mail ballots in urban Nevada that will decide the U.S. Senate race. https://t.co/H356foAlnk

There will also be mail to count from now until Saturday. But this is the biggest batch. CCM will need to crush it with this to survive.

Editor’s Note: Republican voters deserve answers and accountability for the failed red wave.
