Sacramento Bee says hammer attack puts Republicans targeting Nancy Pelosi in an awkward spot

This is going to be a short post because, frankly, the Sacramento Bee just doesn’t get that much engagement on its tweets despite being a Twitter-verified source of journalism. As Twitchy reported early this week, CBS News’ Margaret Brennan floated the idea on “Face the Nation” that Republicans should pull their midterm campaign ads to avoid inspiring more hammer attacks against Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul.

Former CNN+ star Rex Chapman put to rest the idea that there was any gay funny business going on because Nancy Pelosi is “sexy personified.”

We still have a lot of questions about the attack — such as NBC News’ now-scrubbed video that claimed Paul Pelosi backed away from police and toward his attacker — and we’re fine if that makes us conspiracy theorists.

The Sacramento Bee is weighing in by suggesting that Republicans have been placed in an “awkward spot” by the attack while their own campaign ads attack the Speaker.

David Lightman reports:

Whatever sympathy the GOP and its candidates might have for Paul Pelosi, it’s not spilling over to his wife. One week after Paul Pelosi was viciously attacked in his home, Republicans continue to portray his wife, powerful House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, as the root of much Democratic evil. Head to the website of the Republican’s congressional campaign committee. At the top of the site, the reader is urged to “Text VICTORY to 21818 to help RETIRE Nancy Pelosi!”

And? What wouldn’t Nancy Pelosi do or say in the pursuit of power?

“Critics say… “:

Critics say the violence and threats are the inevitable result of years of GOP demonizing of Pelosi. Two days before the attack, GOP campaign committee chairman Tom Emmer, R-Minn., tweeted a video of him shooting a gun at an unseen target. “Enjoyed exercising my Second Amendment rights with @KellyCooperAZ & General @JackBergman_MI1,” he said in a tweet. Bergman is a Republican congressman from Michigan and Cooper, a Republican, is running for Congress in Arizona.

And?

“Still, the ads keep coming,” writes Lightman over his tears.
