Twitter reminds us that it takes time (multiple days) to count all of the votes

I was on deck the night of the 2016 election, and it wasn’t until around 3 a.m. that the networks started calling the election for Donald Trump. It’s obvious they didn’t want to, and there was a long stretch of silence after Hillary Clinton’s inevitable win didn’t seem so inevitable anymore. So we sat and waited. Oh, and supposedly a water pipe burst in Atlanta so they had to delay the count.

I’ve lived through a lot of elections, and I don’t remember them taking days to call. Of course, there was the 2000 election, with its hanging chads and pregnant chads and other nonsense. And there are still election deniers on the Left who think the presidency was stolen from Al Gore.

Social media is helping this year, which is surprising, because this is a midterm election and those aren’t normally so closely watched. Republicans are leading in all of the issues that are most important to voters and are likely to gain majorities in the Senate and House.

We’re also being told, though, that it might be more like Election Week than Election Day. Twitter is reminding us all that it takes time to count all of the votes. Again, it never seemed to be a problem before getting all of the numbers in on election night.

We’re still encountering unconfirmed claims that Stacey Abrams won her race in 2018.

Why are we being prepped to wait up to a week to find out who won, and warned not to spread any “disinformation” before the results are confirmed?
