Brit Hume highlights WSJ piece arguing that Donald Trump and his followers are essentially antifascists

We have in our archives a handful of posts about media types (e.g., Don Lemon, Joy Behar) explaining Antifa — Antifa, they say, literally stands for “anti-fascist,” so obviously they’re on the streets fighting fascism. It’s right there in the name! And as we reported, David French had another sanctimonious take, noting how conservative snowflakes who throw around terms like “communist” and “groomer” had their feelings hurt when President Joe Biden called them “semi-fascist.”

Brit Hume highlighted a great piece by Lance Morrow in the Wall Street Journal explaining that Donald Trump and his followers are the true anti-fascists. You knew it and we knew it, but it’s nice to hear someone say it. This isn’t to say that Morrow is a Trump fan … he has plenty of criticism of Trump and his followers. But he does know what fascism really looks like.

Morrow writes:

If there are fascists in America these days, they are apt to be found among the tribes of the left. They are Mr. Biden and his people (including the lion’s share of the media), whose opinions have, since Jan. 6, 2021, hardened into absolute faith that any party or political belief system except their own is illegitimate—impermissible, inhuman, monstrous and (a nice touch) a threat to democracy. The evolution of their overprivileged emotions—their sentimentality gone fanatic—has led them, in 2022, to embrace Mussolini’s formula: “All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.” Or against the party. (People forget, if they ever knew it, that both Hitler and Mussolini began as socialists). The state and the Democratic Party must speak and act as one, suppressing all dissent. America must conform to the orthodoxy—to the Chinese finger traps of diversity-or-else and open borders—and rejoice in mandatory drag shows and all such theater of “gender.” Meantime, their man in the White House invokes emergency powers to forgive student debt and their thinkers wonder whether the Constitution and the separation of powers are all they’re cracked up to be.

That’s why they continuously call for the Senate, the Electoral College, and even the Supreme Court to be abolished.’

Hume’s getting a lot of flak in the comments by saying the party that wants the “least possible interference” also wants to control women’s bodies and ban books. And the Left wanted you fired from your job if you weren’t vaccinated and was going to send OSHA inspectors to enforce it.
