White House denies prior knowledge of Trump raid, cites 'complete independence' of the DOJ from politicization

President Joe Biden borrowed a line from his old boss when asked if the White House knew anything in advance about the FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago: He’d heard about it on the news, at the same time the American public did. Biden then hopped on Air Force One and took off for a week’s vacation with Jill and Hunter. Biden’s not around for the anniversary of the fall of Afghanistan, and he’s not around for the fallout from the raid on Donald Trump’s home. Hopefully, he’s kept in the loop in South Carolina seeing as Trump apparently had the nuclear codes in Melania’s closet.

ABC’s “This Week” reports that the White House stresses that it had no advance knowledge of the raid and cites the “complete independence” of the Department of Justice from politicization.

Justin Gomez reports:

“We do not interfere. We do not get briefed. We do not get involved,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told ABC “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl in an exclusive interview on Sunday.

Pressed repeatedly by Karl, Jean-Pierre repeatedly declined to comment on any aspect of the federal investigation into Trump, including whether President Joe Biden is concerned about national security implications of the highly classified materials that federal agents said they found in Trump’s possession. (Through a spokesperson, Trump claimed the files were declassified.)

“I hear your question, but it would be inappropriate for me as the press secretary to comment on this. It would be inappropriate for any of us, including the president or anyone in the administration, to comment on this,” Jean-Pierre said. “This is a law enforcement matter. And the Department of Justice is going to move forward as they see fit.”

Newsweek had run an exclusive claiming that even Attorney General Merrick Garland was out of the loop, although he’s since insisted the raid was conducted under his direction.

As Twitchy reported, “Morning Joe” brought on former agent Peter “Insurance Policy” Strzok to vouch for the FBI’s integrity.
