NYT: Several Democrat-run states are pushing for stiffer 'rules' on the spread of disinformation

There was plenty of backlash from both sides of the aisle when the Department of Homeland Security suddenly set up a Disinformation Governance Board and named Nina Jankowicz as its chair. Conservatives had a particularly good reason for opposing it, especially since Jankowicz had called the Hunter Biden story “a fairy tale about a laptop repair shop.” It seemed she’d been spreading plenty of disinformation herself on social media, and it all leaned in one direction politically.

The New York Times, after that debacle, seems surprised that there’s a political divide over “disinformation.” Democrat-run states, it reports, are pushing for stiffer rules against spreading false information. Rules? Or laws? On the other side, red states seem to be pushing for fewer rules, i.e., freedom of speech.
