As Twitchy noted earlier, Jonathan Chait has changed his target from Donald Trump to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Just check out this tweet that sounds like it was written by a liberal buzzword machine:
Ron DeSantis would methodically strangle democracy through a series of illiberal Orbanist steps like he has modeled in Florida. @jonathanchait writes https://t.co/5MLY1tOwqw

“Methodically strangle democracy” … “illiberal Orbanist steps” — give us a break, drama queen.
A lot of people dunked on Chait for his piece encouraging liberals to support Donald Trump for president, but as he wrote in his newsletter (meaning no one saw it) he quickly retracted that column that anti-anti-Trumpists are so obsessed with.
I wrote in my newsletter a couple months ago about how anti-anti-Trumpists are obsessed with that one, quickly retracted column I write before I took Trump seriously. Their obsession reveals more about them than me. https://t.co/7MDL8hhDr6

No, it reveals more about you.
"before I took Trump seriously"
but readers can totally trust you now, cause now is different cause you say so
A+ tweet 👍

Chait retracted when Trump became ascendant again. It was never a principled stand for him. Whoever looks to be the most-likely R nominee will draw Chait's ire. That's all one needs to know.

how can anyone trust any new column you write now won't be retracted "quickly" or otherwise?
how often are your columns retracted anyway?

This is literally "Am I out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong", the tweet

It is. He did the meme.
"Stop paying attention to what I write!"

Just admit, you tried to troll the GOP primary and it blew up in your face.

What does your 28-months-too-early hit piece on DeSantis say about you?
— AmishDude (@TheAmishDude) July 11, 2022
Chait here openly admitting he boosted Trump for fun when he thought it would sow havoc, but once he thought "oh no he might win the Presidency and not just destroy the GOP" he 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑑 ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑑. And he 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑡𝑜 𝑔𝑖𝑣𝑒 ℎ𝑖𝑚 𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑖𝑡. https://t.co/NJz8loI3CU

Everyone has a right to opine on whatever subject they choose. It's a free country. But don't ask me to take the opinions of a single one of those "Why Rubio Is Actually Worse Than Trump" 2015 era thinkpiece-troll-cum-Resistance-journo hacks seriously.

I know what I was saying back in 2016, when it actually mattered. Jon Chait? He wasn't late to the party, he was pissing in the punchbowl because thought it was a joke. And no, there is no reason why anyone should ever let him forget it. pic.twitter.com/C4rD3ncp2x

My last sentence there is more circumspect and morally responsible than anything Jonathan Chait has written in his entire professional career. So spare me the next "[Appealing Non-Trump Republican] Is Actually Worse Than Trump!" piece.

Does the whole Trump might have been a Russian asset since 1987 thing still stand, or did you retract that, too?
— Rich Lowry (@RichLowry) July 11, 2022
Ok, since you're admitting you're wrong and want to introduce a new subject, the answer to that one is yes, as explained here: https://t.co/lT7z4GZe3J
— Jonathan Chait (@jonathanchait) July 11, 2022
“It’s now a proven fact.”
