As Twitchy reported last week, Jordan Peterson was locked out of Twitter for hateful conduct after he deadnamed actor Elliot Page, who is definitely a guy. “Ellen Page just had her breasts removed by a criminal physician,” he tweeted. As we reported this morning, Dave Rubin has also been locked out of his account for sharing a screenshot of Peterson’s tweet.
Enough people got involved in the conversation that Elliot Page’s deadname appeared as a trending topic on Twitter, violating Twitter’s own policy on hateful conduct. It was a mistake, the company says. P.S. You can still threaten the life of a Supreme Court justice.

Thank goodness. It’s ironic that Page starred in “Inception,” because we’re seeing bans inside of bans inside of bans.
I’m sorry who???

None must mention the unspeakable name. Those who do shall be banished to the outer realms. https://t.co/E5kxegd30f

This really does seem to be the worst crime you can commit on Twitter.

BuzzFeed reports:
After BuzzFeed News contacted a Twitter spokesperson, Page’s deadname no longer appeared to be trending. Twitter spokesperson Trenton Kennedy confirmed the site had removed it as a trending topic.
In a statement to BuzzFeed News, Kennedy reiterated the site’s policies and said allowing Page’s deadname to trend was a mistake.
“The term you referenced should not have been allowed to appear in Trends, and it has since been removed and prohibited from appearing in Trends,” Kennedy said. “Our teams are constantly evaluating our internal processes for mitigating this from happening.”
Good question:
I'm curious – if someone else named Ellen Page were to trend would it still be banned? How would the algorithm detect this anomaly?
