In another post, we bring up an old tweet by White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates, who traded quips with Jennifer Rubin back during the 2020 campaign about never having seen President Trump run or ride a bike. We’re not done with Bates yet. We’re told the adults are back in charge, and we’d think a deputy press secretary would have put out something sensible, like, “President Biden fell off his bike today in Delaware but is unhurt; the president appreciates all the well-wishes.”
But no … Bates rushed out a tweet intercutting between Trump descending that ramp at West Point — which CNN’s Chris Cillizza ensured us “mattered” very much — and … some other stuff.
Never seen Trump on a bike. Let alone get right back up and keep going. But to be fair, I have seen him run track masterfully. https://t.co/vVMUsfsX0c pic.twitter.com/f1KD6BLGjj

Basic comms 101: when your boss does something embarrassing like fall off a bike, don’t make it worse by doing this. https://t.co/sFlHuDS36w

On a serious note, this White House has given up on policy solutions to their many problems (inflation, gas prices, baby formula, the border) believing strong messaging and communications alone could bail them out.
Easy to see why their approval rating has fallen below Trump’s. https://t.co/sFlHuDS36w

I’ve never seen Trump with $6/gal gas, 9% inflation, fumble 2 wars in a season, or call VP and First Lady President (multiple times) either… guess there’s a lot Biden can do Trump hasn’t done. https://t.co/ELBZmpsrjC

Trump could also walk up the stairs to Air Force One without falling.

Here’s Bates back during the campaign when his candidate could actually make it up a flight of stairs:
My president, showing vigor on the way to address how we solve the many crises that Donald Trump is puzzlingly running on having ramped up. https://t.co/UH9agCgc0m
— Andrew Bates (@AndrewBatesNC) August 31, 2020
“Ramped up,” get it? Communications professional. You know he rushed to get this video out on a Saturday morning.
