We thought NASCAR’s mission was to race a bunch of cars around a track and hand a price to the fastest. This is the first day of Pride Month, though, and we’re learning all sorts of things. We haven’t seen a Pride Month tweet as cringeworthy as the Marines’ rainbow bullet graphic, but NASCAR sticks out through the tweet text. Apparently, NASCAR’s real mission is to be a welcoming sport for all. Maybe they’re still reeling from that “noose” that someone hung in Bubba Wallace’s stall (at least months before it was assigned to him), but NASCAR has something to get off its chest: recent actions have not aligned with NASCAR’s mission. Like what?
As we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, we acknowledge that recent actions have not aligned with NASCAR’s mission to be a welcoming sport for all.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to create a more inclusive environment — in our workplaces, at the race track & in the stands. pic.twitter.com/r0h232xaXd

@NASCAR and what recent events would those be? Be specific.

Every professional sport doing this in the last 10 years is so weird to me. I asked that too, was/were there some incidents I don't know about?

Are people shooing gays away from the track or something? https://t.co/w1kJPUFCRr

I assumed NASCAR was exclusively a gay thing?

I think it is because the concession stands refuse to sell quiche.

They must have found a rainbow 🌈 noose in one of their garages.

Something to do with the interior decorating or clothes the drivers wear maybe?

I attend 2-3 races a year and have never seen anyone get run out of a speedway based on their sexual orientation.

Some are suggesting that NASCAR let the LGBTQIA+ community down by making transphobic Texas Gov. Greg Abbott the honorary starter for its All-Star race:

People on here triggered that a politician was allowed to be at a race in a red state and wave the green flag need fo grow up. People who don't vote as you do shouldn't be forced into either caving or be silenced.

Wow, that is a SUPER woke version of the Pride flag you have going on there. I must admit I am not familiar with the meaning of the purple circle on the end.

We know! There’s the pride rainbow for gays, the angled stripes are for trans people and the black and brown communities, and the purple circle on the yellow field is for intersex people. It’s getting pretty crowded on that flag.
