Christina Pushaw mixes it up with another reporter over allegations by the Grim Reaper guy

We’re going to have to make a new category dedicated to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary Christina Pushaw mixing it up with journalists and posting their DMs and emails to Twitter. This one — Scott Powers of FloridaPolitics.com — isn’t quite as condescending as the guy from the AP, but still. Powers was doing a story on whether Pushaw had suggested that Daniel Uhlfelder — the Democratic activist who used to dress up as the Grim Reaper and hassle people on the beach about COVID, and who is now running for attorney general — was behind a fake Nazi protest in Orlando.

Pushaw denied it, obviously, and added that it was shameful that Powers wouldn’t bother to verify Uhlfelder’s claim “before coming at me with this question based on an utterly false premise.”

“Who might I verify it with?” he responded, adding, “Maybe, I don’t know, a press secretary whose very job includes verifing/refuting [sic] such things?” “Now. Did you mean to give credence to this tweet claiming that Uhlfelder was behind a fake Nazi protest, or not?” Pushaw suggested maybe searching Twitter first, as it is a public platform.

Powers writes:

Accused of promoting a Twitter post that had charged that an apparent Nazi rally was faked by Jewish Democratic Attorney General candidate Daniel Uhlfelder, Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ press secretary said Tuesday she was only commenting on the masks worn by the demonstrators.

It is the second time this year that DeSantis’ press secretary Christina Pushaw has spurred controversy regarding tweets suggesting apparent Nazi rallies in Orlando might be fake.

A Twitter user with the handle @gwardhome tweeted, “I am gonna pull the trigger and call this a fake. A scam. First @DWUhlfelderLaw is pushing it, and all he does is lie and try to gun up drama. Second it is maybe 3-5 people, all wearing masks. No other signage past 3 flags.”

Pushaw commented on that tweet with “Masks ???” and an emoji of a mask.

That’s definitely worth a story.

So assume the Grim Reaper guy is telling the truth — not that he has an anti-DeSantis bias or anything — and then write up the campaign’s press release as a story.

Update:

You’ll never guess what The Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson retweeted:
