We have a handful of liberal priests (as well as a “bishop” and a former pastor) about whom we write once in a while, but we’d not heard of this guy. His Twitter bio says he’s a Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, but he’s come up with an argument in favor of keeping Roe v. Wade the law of the land. Let’s see if we’ve got this straight: Tradition is a source of revelation from God. Roe v. Wade has been a tradition for nearly 50 years, making it a revelation from God. And the Catholics on the Supreme Court aren’t respecting tradition, and therefore law itself has failed.

Holy crap.
You…
You're arguing that if a SCOTUS ruling stays in place for a certain amount of time that it's a revelation from G-d?Is this your position on gay marriage? Women's rights? Slavery?
What exactly is the time threshold for revelations from G-d?? https://t.co/LpyTDyxbPk

Can you name the historical precedent for aborting a child?
— Dave (@stronkdaddy) May 10, 2022
With all due respect, Father, there was NO historical precedent for Roe. Abortion was never legal in this country until 1973.
Our rights come from God. Abortion is an objective moral evil, however; therefore, evil has NO rights.

God outlawed murder with Cain about 10,000 years ago. If you want a revelation from God, look in His word. The Bible is clear about the humanness of the unborn and the penalty for murder of another human being.

Comparing divine revelation to stare decisis for an unjust law.

Why didn't that argument come up in 72 when when SCOTUS ignored decades or centuries of tradition in that ruling.
This new ruling merely undoes a previous egregious disregard of "tradition and history".— R DeLevis 🇺🇸 (@DeLevisV) May 10, 2022

Weak take, Father. The ruling is fifty years old. That’s hardly “tradition.”
It seems much more plausible that Roe will be deemed a jurisprudentially-untenable anomaly that broke from— and will ultimately be rejected by— a much older and more well-established tradition.

I’ve seen an awful lot of terrible justifications for abortion. I never for a minute thought anything would be dumber than what I’ve already heard.
Boy was I wrong…

Pretty sloppy routine overall and your frontal lobe didn’t really stick the landing.
— Red Wigglers (@CadillacOfWorms) May 10, 2022
Fr. Wilkinson: please clear up the confusion now and publicly state here that the Catholic Church has always taught that abortion is murder & that Roe was wrongly decided. Hopefully we all misunderstood your comments.

You should be defrocked. Seriously.

This is so ignorant on so many levels.

This guy seriously is a priest in Atlanta. How the Catholic Church let that happen we have no idea. We thought it was “tradition” that priests were pro-life.
