This should be good. New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet is reported to have issued a Twitter “reset,” urging reporters to “meaningfully reduce” their time on Twitter. Maybe this will inspire Pulitzer Prize winner Nikole Hannah-Jones to finally write an article for the paper with her newfound free time. Reporters were also reminded that tweets and subtweets undermining colleagues were not allowed.

This memo feels like a subtweet.

The irony that this order is basically a subtweet of NHJ

They're just going to ignore this. Who's going to fire Hannah Jones?
— Cerberus (@Cerberus0fHades) April 7, 2022
So their response to the mess their reporters have made with tweets is to stop other reporters from criticizing them? Wow.

Good. The algorithmic echo chamber has affected reporters as much as anyone. It’s how we ended up with The Narrative York Times, in place of journalism.

I’m old enough to remember when @nytimes announced they don’t need a public editor *because Twitter would provide accountability.*
— Chris Robertson (@DesignClimate) April 7, 2022
So, how about that public editor position? Does NYT still believe that Twitter is a proper substitute?
— Mohamed (@BloodyMathias88) April 7, 2022
They should have done this a decade ago.

This but every newsroom. Please.

In other words, asking reporters to stop trolling their readers.

Their colleagues aren't the ones they're attacking or undermining with their tweets, though.
— Gabe (@gabesaidwut) April 7, 2022
The rest of us will have to attack and undermine them harder I suppose.
— Blake Smith (@basmithart) April 7, 2022
We’re up to it.
“Stop embarrassing yourself and the paper, gang!”
