Lefty political operative group claims that 'a Republican from Texas' is fighting alongside the Russians against Ukraine

It’s true that a man from Texas is posting videos from Russia — Newsweek even wrote a story about him and his viral videos, without ever mentioning his political leanings. We suppose that he’s from Texas was enough for lefty PAC Meidas Touch to claim that he’s a Republican; their tweet was retweeted more than 5,000 times and garnered 13,000 likes. But as Andy Ngo points out, the guy’s an avowed communist.

In a profile in Texas Monthly, we learn that Russel Bentley’s political beliefs “further crystalized during a trip to Cuba in the mid-nineties.”

Where’d they get that he’s a Republican?
