'Advocates and scholars' say Biden's black woman SCOTUS nominee is about 'injecting new lived experiences'

There have been a lot of hot takes about President Joe Biden’s pledge to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court. This would be the first black woman on the court, but advocates and scholars tell Bloomberg that it’s not just about being “first” — it’s about “injecting new lived experiences” into deliberations, kind of like how Sonia Sotomayor brought that “wise Latina” flavor with her.

We remember when MSNBC described Amy Coney Barrett as “very Catholic,” and Chris Cuomo said her faith made her different from an “ordinary Catholic,” and Senator Dianne Feinstein told Barrett, “The dogma lives loudly within you.” They weren’t interested in her “lived experience.”
