Is it just us or does it seem odd that FiveThirtyEight would choose Christmas, the day when Christians around the world celebrate the birth of “a dark-skinned, Black, North African man with dreadlocks,” to ask for stories about ending life? It actually a good idea to talk about abortion, and FiveThirtyEight got responses from people who wanted to tell their stories. They probably weren’t all what they expected, though.
Do you have an abortion story? We want to hear from you. https://t.co/y6rFyFfnHt

it is interesting how many responses to this talk about doctors presenting or recommended abortion as an option due to test results about potential issues with the child
and the child later turns out to be “perfectly healthy”

I was born with a minor genetic condition. My mother's Dr suggested abortion because I wouldn't live a normal life. My parents said no. I'm living a normal life.
I want no more abortion stories. I want more birth stories. https://t.co/PgPE4JSMck

My mother was screamed at by a doctor who demanded she abort my younger sister with Edward's syndrome; he insulted her and even threatened to drag her away. I was there; only 3, but I remember it. Since then, I have always been pro-life, even at my worst. Deo gratias. https://t.co/KRYYnmrBqu

My parents were told my sister would have Down Syndrome. They said if that is how she will be, we don't care. She was born just fine, well not as cool as me but pretty close. https://t.co/DRF1YzV0sE

At the ultrasound for my 2nd pregnancy we were told our baby had Down Syndrome and her heart was incompatible with life. They encouraged us to end the pregnancy. She's completely healthy. pic.twitter.com/RgR8haX15s

Our first pregnancy had complications. We were told there was a chance of genetic disorder & were asked if we wanted to abort.
We didn’t. He’s my amazing 13 year old son, & I can’t imagine life without him. pic.twitter.com/iyr91KLrAr

I was told my baby didn’t have a heart beat at 10 weeks and that we should do a DNC right away… I said no. Almost 10 years later, my perfectly healthy son is sitting right beside me.

My Son celebrated his 15th birthday. The Dr told my wife she was high risk and should abort him. He plays piano, loves @Browns and Loves the Lord… His name is Jacob! May this encourage someone…

Nephew’s wife was pregnant with twins. She was told to abort because the one twin wouldn’t make it and would likely kill her brother too. She left it up to God and now they have 2 healthy, beautiful 5 yr olds.

My mom found out she was pregnant. Planned Parenthood just wanted to schedule “the procedure.” She sought another opinion, decided against abortion, had me and my twin, 2 more kids, a career, 4 grandkids and counting.

Unwed & pregnant,a family member encouraged me to get an abortion & made me an appointment. I went & was told there was no risk, an obvious lie. NOTHING comes without risk. I left & never went back. My beautiful boy is now 38 years old & the world is a better place with him in it

This is my oldest son Isaac and me. I found out I was pregnant with him when I was 20 and in school. Friends told me to abort but I didn’t. He’s the most amazing human and now I have 4. pic.twitter.com/CUtMqYXNcZ

My best friend got pregnant when she was 15 yrs old and scheduled an abortion. In the waiting room she changed her mind, decided to love her baby and walked out. Her daughter is now in her 30's and is also a mother…all because my friend decided not to kill her baby that day.

My mother was 15 when she got pregnant with me. Didn’t go to the appt she made for an abortion. I’ve been married for 30 years and have two amazing children. One a CPA, the other in the navy. My life isn’t significant to most, but it certainly is to my husband and children.

I'm a mother because my son's birth mother was an amazing woman who selflessly carried him instead of aborting and gave me the honor of raising him. ❤️ https://t.co/Pl709QKPqZ

My son was born extremely prematurely to a single mother who lived in the projects. Rather than abort him, she gave him life and allowed us to adopt him. He’s the handsomest and sweetest young man you could ever meet. I thank God for him every day.

Yes, I found out on my 19th birthday I was pregnant. Friends tried to talk me into an abortion because I was young. My son is now 15 years old and 1 of 3 of my greatest gifts and blessings. https://t.co/Xk4TisTPF5

Yes, my wife told me she was pregnant, we had a choice to abort or keep the baby. She's now 3-years-old and loves life, we're thinking of having another. I had no idea how to be a dad as my mother raised me alone. Married 7-years. Thank God we stayed the course. https://t.co/XsGYauatps pic.twitter.com/tvq4vrhGcZ

Yea, I do.
My mother was having an affair with a married man in late 1981. She was also in the last half of a chemistry related degree.
She got pregnant. Pregnant women couldnt do the lab work required to finish her degree. She could have gotten an abortion. She didn't. I lived https://t.co/RufoWH1vkU

My Father-in-law was born poor&black in rural, segregated MI. His mother tried to abort him; procedure failed. He went on to be pastor who lifted the lives of countless others; 4 children, 9 grandchildren &6 great grandchildren. A stunning legacy bc one baby survived abortion https://t.co/AXBz1IfSJL

I did a pro-life talk a couple of years ago at a high school.
One of the boys looked very angry throughout the talk.
He walked up to me afterwards.
And broke down crying, saying I made him pro-life.
He was angry because he was grieving.
His girlfriend had an abortion. https://t.co/oNZ3tDqiHU

My mom got pregnant out of wedlock and was freaking out so she went to planned Parenthood because she was told they would help. They told her she could either kill me or leave and that they had no other options. Luckily my mom is not murderous or impulsive so here we are https://t.co/oV7wh8XBvc

On Christmas Day, let's talk about abortions, why don't we? It is, after all, the most natural of things to talk about on a day when Christians celebrate a birth.
These fucking people, I swear. https://t.co/WbXm4tdv4c

The replies just go on and on … it’s the best ratio we’ve seen. Now we wonder what FiveThirtyEight will do with all of this material?
