Journalists love to write about Palestine almost as much as they love writing about themselves, so it was a blessing in disguise when the Israeli Defence Force took down a building said to house offices used by Hamas. Now the story is all about the Associated Press’s reporters and how Israel bombed their bureau.
AP’s CEO has issued a statement saying they’re “shocked and horrified” that the Israeli military would target a building housing news organizations. They’re apparently even more shocked that they were sharing office space with Hamas, and they’ve called on the Israeli government “to put forward the evidence.”
You’d think the AP would be more forceful and insist that Hamas did not have assets in the building, seeing as they’re journalists and would know better.
AP CEO: "AP’s bureau has been in this building for 15 years. We have had no indication Hamas was in the building or active in the building. This is something we actively check to the best of our ability. We'd never knowingly put our journalists at risk."https://t.co/8UOXMXqwc2 pic.twitter.com/cd4nJFBEiL

Doesn't say much for their reporting abilities if they missed a Hamas staging office a floor away.

I’m pretty sure Mossad knows more than the Associated Press CEO about where Hamas is.

AP is trying to convince you that they had no clue there was a terror cell in their basement.

Sounds legit
— WeirdRalph (@weirdralph) May 15, 2021
Well, says a lot about the journalists.

Wel if you didn’t like the Israel people before this article YOU DO NOW 👍🏻👍🏻

These are the people we trust to give us information..
— Passionately Apathetic (@acct_brnr) May 15, 2021
Where was your reporting on the “Metro” terrorist tunnels throughout the city? On fact, where was AP’s coverage on the tunnels at the border until the IDF began plugging them? “To the best of your knowledge?” Really?
— Bill Weinstein (@BillWeinsteinOH) May 15, 2021
Hang on, they couldn't figure out Hamas was using them as human shields and a propaganda arm?
Sure.
— Attila the Honeybun (@AttilaSaysMeow) May 15, 2021
They must be pretty piss poor reporters.
— Maeve (@Maeve0330) May 15, 2021
Wow. Soooo……how good are they at their job?!
— Hamas is a terrorist organization (@Fuckthose2guys) May 15, 2021
Great journalists. They say don't even know Hamas is in the same building as themselves but we're suppose to trust their 'reporting?'
— Mark Jacobs (@mr_markjacobs) May 15, 2021
Lol, the AP wants the evidence. You were able to evacuate because they warned you.
— Blake (@sometimes_wait) May 15, 2021
You had a generous warning to get out of the building. “Narrowly avoiding loss of life” means someone was debating whether to leave or not …
— User001 (@KenH3) May 15, 2021
So the AP works with Hamas. Color me shocked…NOT.
— Redfish Wrangler (@WranglerRedfish) May 15, 2021
That's some great journalism there. Great self own by @AP
— Jimbo (@Jimbo94736664) May 15, 2021
Pretty crappy journalism to not find out a terror organization were their neighbors
— TBO (@bo_dynasty) May 15, 2021
Uh huh.
— Wicked Scotty (@Wicked_Scotty) May 15, 2021
This is an odd way of confessing that you're a completely inept news organization
— Drew Brady (@TomBledsoe11) May 15, 2021
"We have had no indication Hamas was in the building or active in the building."
So what they're saying is: "We at the AP are blind, deaf, dumb, and should not be trusted to run a news organization." Or…. realistically, they knew. pic.twitter.com/udqK921NVD

We are professional news making people, but we also don't know that a designated terror organization shares a bathroom with us

Right. Because you know, journalists. 🙄
— Marie (@stellamaris325) May 15, 2021
Hamas is on your payroll, admit.

— Cypress Ed 🌐 (@CypressEd) May 15, 2021
Honest question, does Hamas warn the Israelis when they target Israelis? Key words in your statement leaves room for plausible deniability "best of our ability" and "knowingly".
— Vehemently opposed (@vmill707) May 15, 2021
Shocked to find out that Israel military wouldn’t share intel about known Hamas locations with a sympathetic global media outlet.
— Dirk Hardpec (@Eat_punchbeef) May 15, 2021
Except for the video of rockets being fired from the building in the last conflict, so sure no indication.
— Take me, I’m your cure (@ThatGuyBrian3) May 15, 2021
I think what he's saying is that Hamas is not a risk to AP journalists.
Which makes perfect sense.
— Steve Soukup (@ThePolForum) May 15, 2021
Calling it now: IDF is about to roll out some really spicy receipts now that AP has feigned ignorance.
— 3DotsOneDash (@3DotsOneDash) May 15, 2021
What would an indication that Hamas is in the building look like?
— ed (@eleventy17) May 15, 2021
It would say "Hamas 3rd Floor" on the Directory in the lobby
— Matt Hay (@MattAHay) May 15, 2021
That building was definitely used for other purposes.
— 🧸 (@B_OMANO) May 15, 2021
The fact that the AP had no clue Hamas was using their building is just further proof that Hamas was indeed using their building.
— J (@falconfanj) May 15, 2021
Buildings can be replaced. AP has insurance, right?
— MooningJune (@MooningJune) May 15, 2021
Don't worry you can just learn to code
— Frito Bandito (@Murica97568219) May 15, 2021
Interesting:
Spoke to a well-placed friend in the IDF just now. The bombed AP office building contained multiple Hamas operations & offices including weapons manufacturing and military intelligence. The building also housed an Islamic Jihad office. And AP's local reporters knew about it.
