Ibram X. Kendi responds to Sen. Tim Scott's denial that America is a racist country by saying 'the heartbeat of racism is denial'

To understand Ibram X. Kendi, author of “How to Be an Antiracist” and “Antiracist Baby,” you have to understand the difference between “anti-racist” and “not racist.” You can be white and claim you’re not racist, but that’s just denial. Kendi declares there’s no such thing as “not racist” and he wants the phrase removed from our vocabulary. To be an anti-racist, you first must admit that you are racist and acknowledge your “whiteness” and what it means in America.

Plenty of “not racist” liberals said some awfully racist-sounding things about Sen. Tim Scott after his response to President Biden — the old white man who believes “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids” — and Twitter let “Uncle Tim” trend for hours and hours. The real racist is Scott, you see, who’s using the tools of white supremacy to become white-adjacent and be accepted by white supremacist conservatives — at least that’s what this editor has been led to believe through dozens of posts.

So when Scott denied that America is a racist country, his denial was actually “the heartbeat of racism.”

In 2020, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey gave Kendi $10 million, no strings attached, for his Center for Antiracist Research, which he’d like to eventually grow into a federal Department of Anti-Racism to monitor public officials for expressions of racist ideas.
