New York Times op-ed columnist Paul Krugman was trying to make a point about a Pew survey that showed Republicans are concerned “only” about illegal immigration (brave of Krugman to use the word “illegal”) and the deficit. Krugman noted that the survey didn’t “ask about the menace of BLM and Antifa,” and somehow managed to get to here from there:
In reality, given that GOP supporters believe that rampaging mobs burned and looted major cities — somehow without the people actually living in those cities noticing — getting them to see facts about something as abstract as the deficit is a hopeless cause 3/

So, the people living in Minneapolis didn’t notice any businesses being burned and looted after the George Floyd video went viral? We’re pretty sure residents who depended on those stores for things like their prescriptions noticed.
What the fuck are you talking about, you gaslighting wind bag? Did you sleep through last summer?
— Social Distance Champion (@realchrishynes) April 22, 2021
are you denying the largest insurance payout for rioting on record or just saying that because the corporate media (your employer) didn't report it, it didn't happen.
— robb cadwell (@somsai) April 22, 2021
The people in those cities did notice. They also noticed the media stopped coverage because it was negatively affecting Biden's election chances. The people in those cities might have decided Trump was still the worse option but they noticed the riots and notice who enabled it.
— WhateverMan (@meisaid) April 22, 2021
Denying what happened last summer is extremely cruel to everyone affected and you don't have to be a "GOP supporter" to observe reality. I guess you couldn't see Minneapolis and St. Paul burning from Princeton.
— Nick Terhaar (@NickTerhaar89) April 22, 2021
Paul, your own newspaper reported on this..https://t.co/HrAz8sbRp5
— Mark Alastor (@MAlastor1) April 22, 2021
It’s cool that Chicago can suffer 769 murders in 2020, a 55% increase compared to 2019, without the people actually living there noticing. Too abstract.
— Brian Boru (@ennuigogo) April 22, 2021
I did actually notice a car being set ablaze outside my house. There's a trash filled burned area in the now unclaimed plot next to me.
— Abelarda (@Abelard95114234) April 22, 2021
I sat in my Chicago apartment and watched people light cars on fire, fire guns at people in high rises, and loot hundreds of local businesses… twice last summer. So yeah, I *noticed*.
— Moonbags (@0xMoonbags) April 22, 2021
all those videos of rioting online were just deepfaked

“Somehow without the people actually living in those cities noticing”?? Is he bragging about the MSM’s stranglehold on the flow of information to democrats in democrat cities?
— Phil Fahy (@pfahy13) April 22, 2021
I'm pretty sure the looting and burning actually happened. Here's a list of buildings attacked in Minneapolis – St. Paul, including the destruction of a US Post Office.https://t.co/FEqhklqIlP
— Jim Maruschak?️ (@JimMaruschak) April 22, 2021
You're pretty bad at gaslighting, Krugman.

I always thought that your crazy eyes were a symptom of major delusion.
— Turtledove (@TurtledoveJB) April 22, 2021
Yes, major cities were not burned or looted. Not sure why people would get the impression they were. Good journalisming! pic.twitter.com/oKOvoFBEKK
— Lil Hangleton (@dsonoiki) April 22, 2021
I live in a large city and I definitely noticed the burning and looting

And the kids didn't even notice!!https://t.co/YajDAX9lXh

Nothing to see here, folks. Just as peaceful as PK's morning run!

They killed more than thirty people and did BILLIONS in damage, you brain dead bag of hammers.
— A Strange loop (@Recursion_Agent) April 22, 2021
Um, I lived in one of those cities, and there were in fact rampaging mobs burning and looting. I noticed, and left.

No one broke into the bank on the first floor of my NYC apartment and looted it. We didn’t have to lock the building down for 48 hours pic.twitter.com/4xsSZVQYYd

I live in Philly and can assure you I noticed when rioters destroyed businesses downtown. This store was permanently closed shortly after this. If you’d like videos of the Foot Locker being looted in broad daylight, I’m happy to oblige. pic.twitter.com/PAb3R1vgCt
— Brian Contrisciane (@BrooksPhilly) April 22, 2021
Can you prove that it wasn’t angry mobs of people who burned buildings and looted stores? Because I can show you a few pictures or videos
— The Oracle (@TheOracleUFC) April 22, 2021
— Sunny (@sunandfog) April 22, 2021
Did you ever consider the possibility that the people who lived in those cities and didn't notice weren't living near the fires and the news media that they consumed just didn't bother to report the fires for optics reasons? Because you know… there were videos of the fires.
— Joshua McNabintosh (@radicalbarks) April 22, 2021
Are you actually suggesting that there have been no mobs rioting and looting cities, or that the people that live there just didn’t notice it. I’m confused either way.
— Jonathan Johnson (@jedijohnsonWoW) April 22, 2021
Can you clarify the point you are making with this tweet? It seems muddled. pic.twitter.com/90TJ5kq784
— Signs of the Times ??️? (@SignsoftheTime8) April 22, 2021
Oh we noticed. No way we couldn't notice. But perhaps you didn't notice because the communities looted and rampaged were primarily low income? Just guessing that that's not where you live?
— Universal Health Care & $25 Minimum Wage (@2000Checks) April 22, 2021
Just how thick is the f*cking bubble you live in? If you didn’t notice the damage, violence, and harassment that took place all last year, you need to reassess your sources.
— Scott G (@scttfrnks) April 22, 2021
Except for the mountains of video evidence, live stream coverage, witness, and so on.

Leftwing mobs did rampage through my city. They even murdered a Trump supporter. pic.twitter.com/nG1J9OGWxZ

"Somehow without the people actually living in those cities noticing."
What? Have you spoken to anyone in Portland and Minneapolis?
— . (@efpkm) April 22, 2021
Ahh yes businesses throughout Minneapolis have always been boarded up, has nothing to do with looting
— David (@BrewSwayne15) April 22, 2021
Half my block in Los Angeles was burned down but yeah, just another right-wing conspiracy!!!
— not halle berry (@NotHalle) April 22, 2021
It must be nice to live in your fantasy world. That's the one where your economic theories work too, I guess.
— Dan Wright (@DanSWright) April 22, 2021
I live in a major city and trust me we noticed you idiot.
— Ryan Naczi (@Ryan_Naczi) April 22, 2021
I live in a major city that had & continues to have riots, looting, arson, vandalism, & there have been a few deaths.
I noticed. It poses continued danger to my family & my livelihood.
You so-called "elites" control the news agencies but my eyes & brain still work just fine.
— Kalkin Trivedi ?? (@KalkinTrivedi) April 22, 2021
Why it never made it to my luxury penthouse, so it never happened. ?
— F. Mule (@BarefootMusings) April 22, 2021
Did we miss when Krugman traveled to these cities and actually spoke with the residents there?
