It was pretty obvious during President Biden’s first press conference that he was referring to some sort of notes whenever he called on a reporter. It’s understandable — he hasn’t really dealt much with the press, and they were wearing masks, so how else would he know to call them out by name. The scribblings on a hi-res photo of his “cheat sheet” have us wondering, though, what those numbers and letters mean.
Joe Biden had a cheat sheet of all the reporters with numbered circles by the ones he was supposed to call on.#Scripted pic.twitter.com/7jyhJgaH2n

That’s how it works in press conferences this is not unique to Biden.

We don’t know — he made it awfully obvious he was calling on people from his notes. We weren’t the only ones who noticed:
Biden appears to be calling on reporters from a prepared list.

Do reporters appear to be asking questions from a prepared list?
— The Streeter (@thestreeter) March 25, 2021
Of course they are.
— Kevin (@kshirey1) March 25, 2021
He did keep looking down all the time to see who he was gonna call on..took forever also??

Good one.
I can’t anymore.. I just can’t @catturd2
— Jesse Walters (@jWalters_88) March 25, 2021
Did he call on them in order? Can anyone tell?
— Darin L Bishop (@Dmitbear) March 25, 2021
Ladies and gentlemen Joe Biden is not a president. When you have reporters hand picked for you, questions pre-drafted and answers to those questions scripted and rehearsed what you have is a puppet, not a president. This is embarrassing.

Will you shut up man, those are just memory aids.

Once you get used to cheating, it's just a tough habit to break.

Some actual journalist should ask the circled people if they knew in advance they had been selected.

I’d have a little more respect for them if they kinda tried to be sneaky about it.
— Judy Smyth (@tynnyfer1) March 25, 2021
Those were page numbers to the question they were going to ask. That’s why he had to flip thru the book so frequently
— Rusty (@RustyRigger) March 25, 2021
Did someone get the notebook he was flipping through before questions?

I miss the real press conferences, which were not scripted or planned out. The differences are night and day! pic.twitter.com/YpRPLyzeRE

Standard procedure or not, President Trump’s press conferences were a whole different animal. We suppose it’s just because of the COVID-19 precautions that Biden’s press conference looked so awkward.
