Liberals who respect Ronald Reagan are lying — they’re just glad he’s not Trump, or Bush — and conservatives who revere Reagan as perhaps the greatest president of their lifetimes don’t consider his granting amnesty to illegal immigrants the highlight of his tenure in office. The Daily Beast’s Sam Stein quoted Reagan Monday “in the context of today’s politics” and (rightfully) assumed Reagan might have a primary challenge on his hands.
Cornyn’s tweet below illustrates how the Trump years moved the Overton Window of the debate far from where we were a decade or two ago: the conversation is now whether humane treatment is wise policy. https://t.co/UPhlpNWwtX

Who built those “concentration camps” again?
Consider this Reagan quote in the context of today’s politics: "If we ever closed the door to new Americans, our leadership in the world would soon be lost.”
It would be an invitation to a MAGA primary challenge

Richard Grenell isn’t having it:
Awful and despicable spin, Sam. You are such a Democrat activist.
We give 1 million people US citizenship a year. We are the most generous nation with immigration. Republicans celebrate immigrants.
But there’s a long line to get in.
Stop promoting line jumpers! https://t.co/id6MFcW7D7

LOL. It has been WELL DOCUMENTED that President Reagan said after leaving office that the thing he regretted most out of ALL 8 YEARS as POTUS was the amnesty deal.
So, please Sam! Don't quote Reagan when you know nothing about him.

Also Ronald Reagan:
"A nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation."

Perfectly said @RichardGrenell My wife is, was, an immigrant from Brazil. We did everything the right, legal way. Now she even has her citizenship. 🙂

My wife is a naturalized US citizen who spent 14 years on a student and work visa before she was granted her citizenship. Our only wish is that others would show the same determination if they wish to enjoy the benefits of our nation!

Even Sen, then candidate, Obama laid it out properly, as he lied [presented what the electorate wanted to hear] to the American public about what he'd do. pic.twitter.com/IV9Qk1d7GA

Where did Trump or Republicans ever say “close the door”? You’re playing games here.
