As Twitchy reported earlier, Anheuser-Busch cut ties with hospital fundraiser Carson King, announcing that “had multiple social media posts that do not align with our values as a brand or as a company and we will have no further association with him.” Those posts were dug up by some toad at the Des Moines Register who somehow thought they were newsworthy eight years later.
That same horrible rag has had to report on King throughout the day, though, as Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation declaring Sept. 28 “Carson King Day.”
Reynolds, joined by Carson, read the proclamation aloud and signed it in her formal office in the Capitol Wednesday afternoon. https://t.co/DUCrqwctLW

Plenty of other businesses and charities stepped up to fill the void left by Anheuser-Busch and local brewery Geneseo Brewing Co. announced that it would brew a new pilsner named “Iowa Legend.”
"We have witnessed your growth through your later social media content and accept your apology," Geneseo Brewing Co., which plans to honor King with a newly released Pilsner, wrote on Facebook. https://t.co/hp6Wk9siTa

"Witnessed your growth" like he robbed banks. But you did a hit job regarding the freaking tweets of a guy who helped sick kids. You're still framing this the same way because you don't feel bad. What you publish is so much more disgusting than lousy jokes. https://t.co/MVB6kbpBHT

Yeah, the paper’s been getting slammed all day long in the comments to every post, deservedly so. What was that reporter’s name who dug up the old tweets? Aaron Calvin?

So you jeopardized potentially 2 million dollars of a donation for a children’s hospital because of your reporter’s intent to ‘cancel’ Carson, then pump out fluff pieces to try and hide your mistake. Is that what’s happening here?

Corrected headline: Since We Tried To Ruin A Man's Life, Other Businesses Had To Jump In And Support His Charity Since We Chased Away A Large Donor.
— Jacob Airey (@realJacobAirey) September 25, 2019
That’s really nice of them to accept Carson’s apology.
I’m sure Carson would be willing to accept an apology from @aaronpcalvin

We’re still waiting for your apology to Mr. King. ??♀️ pic.twitter.com/tprCW8osNU

You'll never gain your credibility back.

Dear Editor – You've got two options: write an editorial that denounces "cancel culture" or double down on the BS. Man up. Pick a lane. Choose which master you're going to serve.
— Love your enemies +++☦ (@JoyceWitt19) September 25, 2019
If I had to pick, I'm guessing the "investigation" is really "figuring out how to protect our own" since someone getting fired might look like an admission of guilt or hypocrisy.

This story includes the line, "A Des Moines Register reporter learned about King's past social media posts while writing…" It's not only unfortunate you don't name the reporter, it lacks transparency. Transparency is the foundation for journalism. You can't have it both ways.

This. Solves. Nothing. Until Carson owns your goddam company, this will not end.

I'd tell you to learn to code, but this story shows you're incapable of learning a lesson of any kind.

Canceled my subscription. 3 of my neighbors did as well. Taking a fantastic choice of giving to kids fighting for their life and the paper chooses to support a scum reporter. Everyone has made mistakes, the paper just made a big one. I’ll never come back.

Seriously, stop tweeting until you do some house cleaning. You have only make things worse.
— Algo Bundy (@bri4343) September 25, 2019
This is completely your fault
Why won’t you just simply apologize?
Or be the total D-bags you are and double down on what you did. At least I could appreciate your ignorance then
— Pete Dunnzo (@PDunnzo) September 25, 2019
"See? It's all turning out okay!"
With this 'positive' news, you guys can go on thinking you still did the right thing.
Go to hell.
