We’re old enough to have seen the episode of “The View” where Whoopi Goldberg explained that when director Roman Polanski had unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl, it wasn’t “rape-rape.” It might have been “rape,” but at least it wasn’t rape-rape, if you get her drift.
Polanski’s still being celebrated by the film community even in 2019 following the #MeToo movement that took down Harvey Weinstein, and Variety took note of his latest award:
Roman Polanski's “An Officer and a Spy” took home the Venice Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize https://t.co/hwJtYF7bam pic.twitter.com/YINUJkqEs2

And here’s Yashar Ali, who should rewrite all of Variety’s headlines from now on:
Roman Polanski, a fugitive from justice for over 40 years, who raped and drugged a 13-year-old girl, took home the Venice Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize for his film “An Officer and a Spy” https://t.co/SnQsk3QxTM

Repulsive. He should be behind bars doing hard labor in a maximum security prison with absolutely no possibility of parole.
— Gay man NOT queer (@gaymoderate) September 7, 2019
Despicable that he’s not in prison and that he still gets celebrated by the industry.

Way to not bury the Lede.
Creepy Roman Polanski, wanted for crimes, gets award from people that were probably okay with Epstein.— The Doctor (@TennantRob) September 7, 2019
This is the correct way to write the articles headline.

Yes and Meryl Streep and all the other Hollywood stars gave him a standing ovation when the Academy gave him the Oscar for "The Pianist". Ohhh who's that I see in there. Harvey Weinstein..smh.https://t.co/88hTI8o0VP

And people worried #metoo 'went too far'
— Emma Rowley (@emma_rowley) September 7, 2019
Disgusting. This is where we are in 2019, and people STILL dare to question the #metoo movement and how it supposedly “went too far”?
— Kat “Stable-ish Genius” Von Count (@KatLikesCoffee) September 7, 2019
This is not the way I hoped “grand jury” would be used in a tweet about Polanski.

What’s unbelievable is that he’s still making movies! He still has actors and actresses and all the people it takes to make a movie work for him so enablers…
— Stephanie Caza (@StephieCaza) September 7, 2019
This, on the heels of Scarlett Johansson defending Woody Allen, is just gross!
— Betsy A Johnson (@Betsy_AJ) September 7, 2019
Thank you for calling this out, Yashar. Amazing how many in Hollywood whitewash this crime.
— AnneHerzberg (@AnneHerzberg14) September 7, 2019
I avoid all that perv’s movies and all those of actors who work for him. The actors who crow about their love of family while working for him particularly disgust me. Take a look at the credits for his films.
— Laureen Chernow (@LaureenChernow) September 7, 2019
Maybe Hollywood will give him another standing ovation at the Oscars this year.

What happened to "Me Too"? Roman is immune?

??
— MissSallyO (@MissSallyO) September 7, 2019
Absolutely disgusting.
— Rachel Rhee (@justdimpleit) September 7, 2019
Thank you. An accurate headline!
