Stay with us, because after an earlier post Saturday on a Starbucks barista asking police to leave the café because they and their guns were making a patron feel unsafe, we thought we’d balance things out with a business doing something the right way, much as Hill Country BBQ did by asking that its guests to be respectful and polite to each other, no matter how badly triggered one might be by that guy in the MAGA hat minding his own business.
As Twitchy reported, “Unplanned,” the movie about one of the youngest Planned Parenthood directors in the United States who resigned and became a pro-life activist after being asked to assist in an abortion at thirteen weeks’ gestation, was released in March (and was quickly labeled “Drama/Propaganda” by Google).
Now the movie is set to open in 24 Canadian theaters, so outrage by the pro-abortion crowd is ginning up again, but this time maple syrup-flavored.
Time to boycott Cineplex and Landmark theaters!
I will not be going to any chains that show anti choice propaganda in any of their theaters.
Controversial anti-abortion film Unplanned to hit more than 24 Canadian theatres https://t.co/JsYEm8amHN via @torontostar

Note The Toronto Star’s helpful reporting that critics panned it (shocker!) and many called it propaganda. Note also the obligatory “controversial” label attached — one that would never be reflexively applied to a pro-choice film.
But the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada calls it “a dangerous piece of anti-abortion propaganda” containing “vicious falsehoods.”
“It preaches an absolutist and extreme case against abortion that has nothing to do with reality,” the ARCC said in a statement.
“Because of the film’s demonization of abortion providers, ARCC fears the movie could incite fanatics to commit acts of harassment or violence against clinics or doctors.”
First, we’d be willing to bet no one at the ARCC has actually seen it, and second, at least one theater in Alberta will have security on hand after it “had a lot of threats” over screening the film.
I rarely go to movies but this will make my decision to stay home a lot easier. This movie should only be shown in church basements. Sorry @CineplexMovies and @landmark you’re not getting my business if you screen this piece of propaganda.

“This movie should only be shown in church basements.” Wonder if she actually saw “Unplanned” (or even a church basement) before deciding where it should be screened.
Hey @CineplexMovies I take my kids to movies all the time, but will stop if this goes ahead. Don’t want to visit a place where my daughters’ rights are not deemed important. https://t.co/9PdevfZ6Ya

OK, bye.
Hi there, as a film exhibitor we provide our guests with movie choices. We believe it is up to the public to decide whether they would like to see a particular film and our guests can give voice to their opinions by choosing to buy a ticket to the movie or not.
— Cineplex (@CineplexMovies) July 5, 2019
Good answer.
This took courage – thank you. Let the public decide.

Good job. Don't cave in to the totalitarians that can't handle anything at odds with their ideology.

This is basically the only response any exhibitor should give when people threaten boycotts because said exhibitor is showing a movie activists don’t want to be seen. https://t.co/RYylbj87FA

No idea what the movie is but good for you.
— BigB_EOD (@bigB_EOD) July 6, 2019
Damn @CineplexMovies I might have rethink my idea that all companies are gutless tapeworms – well done.

Best answer you can give, Cineplex. Don’t give in to the minority of fascists, like these two, who want to restrict your freedom.
— ❌Walkaway from DNC!❌ (@GoForLiberty) July 6, 2019
Thank you Cineplex for allowing all voices to be heard. As you say….ticket sales will prove whether or not people want to see balanced viewpoints.

Thank you for standing up for freedom of speech. You will always be my theater of choice from now on!

Good job cineplex! Don’t allow the authoritarians to have power to censor all wrong think based on their childish malevolence.
Blame video games, blame movies, blame amazing literature blame comics. We can never cow-tow to these extremist thought police

It is so awesome to see businesses regaining their self respect and confidence and letting their consumers decide what they will and will not support with their patronage and their $$. That's the way it's supposed to work. Well done.

It's a shame I can only "like" this tweet once. Thank you for standing up to the perpetual outrage machine.
— Hootie McBoob (@RayPruett2) July 6, 2019
It’s almost as though the pro-abortion crowd doesn’t want people to even have the choice to see a movie about a woman who became pro-life after seeing Planned Parenthood from the inside.
