We knew this was coming this morning when Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz asked Attorney General Bill Barr if he wanted to “rephrase” what he said about the Obama administration spying on the Trump campaign in 2016. “I think the word ‘spying’ could cause people in the cable news ecosystem to freak out,” Schatz said, as if we cared.
Now Sen. Chuck Schumer and the rest of the Senate Democrats are calling for Barr to walk back what he said about his belief that the Trump campaign was spied on.
JUST IN: Senate Dems call for Barr to walk back allegation Trump's campaign was spied on by FBI https://t.co/SJ84N88vxN pic.twitter.com/4mZpF2Hqkz

AG Barr admitted he had no evidence to support his claim that spying on the Trump campaign “did occur.”
AG Barr must retract his statement immediately or produce specific evidence to back it up.
Perpetuating conspiracy theories is beneath the office of the Attorney General.
— Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) April 10, 2019
…are you sure you want evidence, Chuck? https://t.co/jAd3DP8wTd
— jon gabriel (@exjon) April 10, 2019
Schumer and crew might want to think this over; you’d think after the Mueller investigation blew up in their faces they’d lay off a bit, but instead, they’re going to try to pressure Barr to take back that “spying” word.

It was spying. No need to walk it back.#Obama and his administration spying on the #Trump campaign is far far worse than #Watergate.
— Habitual Linestepper (@FergusFSU) April 10, 2019
so they want him to lie?
— Nancy Gill (@nancygill) April 10, 2019
They can't have their cake and eat it too…
"we don't know anything until we see the full Mueller report"
"Barr is omitting negative things from the Mueller report" (that they haven't seen)
"Barr is starting conspiracy theories" (based on the report they haven't seen)Sad. pic.twitter.com/yRCUtWemmP

They know that this was dirty from the beginning and many will be exposed…they need him to stop NOW.
— Dave (@dacmillero) April 10, 2019
Why are they asking him to "walk back" on the allegations?
Is there something to hide from?
— My_Own_Opinions ?? (@My_Own_Opinions) April 10, 2019
@SenateDems stick it. Time to own the truth folks.
— Dale Kowalkowski (@scoop1030) April 10, 2019
Soft coup.
— HR Chesterfield ?? (@HRChesterfield) April 10, 2019
Amazing that two years of "no proof" being good enough for the Dems has now morphed into YOU SHOULD HAVE PROOF BEFORE YOU SAY "SPYING"!!!!!
— That's Doc Imre (@RebeccaImre) April 10, 2019
Later in the hearing he accepted "unauthorized surveillance" as alternative phrasing for those to sensitive to call it what it is.
I suspect those screaming the loudest didn't actually watch the hearing.

I can't tell if this is silly posturing or whether a lot if Democrats were left in the dark and didn't know about the spying or the fact Russiagate was a hoax from the start. If Barr really digs in, it was far more serious than just spying.
— PIAccount (@PIAccount1) April 10, 2019
"They didn't spy, they just inserted informants with CIA and FBI ties into the campaign who reported back to those agencies and then they got FISA warrants to monitor Carter Page." pic.twitter.com/DDqOc6jp0P

It’s a distraction. Stay focused Dems.
— TripleB (@frankyb333) April 10, 2019
Yep. Getting caught trying to pull a coup is a distraction.
— Jack Battier (@OneEyeBlackJack) April 10, 2019
So they are telling him to perjure himself?
That seems odd.
— Mortis (@WitchyDruss) April 10, 2019
But 44 did spy on the Trump campaign, while letting Hillary off the hook for egregious breaches of security (felonies).
There should a SP for this scandal.
— Charles X Proxy (@Charlemagne0814) April 10, 2019
But it was. The democrats are panicking. This whole thing is going to be unraveled.

Barr will walk that back when the Dems walk back *checks calendar* 2 1/2 years of Russia collusion conspiracy theories.
We'll wait.
— DJ (@DJNYified) April 10, 2019
It’s almost like they don’t want an investigation about “protecting our democracy”
— The Fat Communist (@FatsCommuno) April 10, 2019
Hang on sunshine… investigation coming
— Adam Strange (@Till_Daddy) April 10, 2019
While you’re at it, demand that Adam Schiff retract his claims of Russian collusion.
— Warren Meyers (@MeyersWarren) April 10, 2019
Dude… Read this post back slowly to yourself and ask if you're really serious about producing specific evidence. You can delete this once the lights come on… Really.
— KurtS?? (@KurtKia22) April 10, 2019
Actually Chuck that’s not what he said. AG Barr said he had nothing he was willing to share with the committee at this time.
— Scot Mitchell (@ScotMitchell) April 10, 2019
He said he wasn’t ready to share yet.
— S Sw (@stephen_swenson) April 10, 2019
Chuck seems to have a problem hearing.
— Forever grateful???? (@gratefullife20) April 10, 2019
I’m pretty sure there will be evidence in those criminal referrals that go out this week.
— Thom Phelps (@thom_phelps) April 10, 2019
Yes, let’s see the evidence. It’s long past time.
