For the record, we’re opposed to global thermonuclear war, but the “Doomsday Clock” has always been a bit of a joke, like calling Bill Nye a scientist. With only 12 years until the globe is rendered uninhabitable by climate change, you’d think they would have moved the minute hand on the clock right up against the 12, but Derek Johnson, executive director of anti-nuke organization Global Zero, says it’s the nuclear weapons, stupid.
It’s called the "Doomsday Clock" for a reason, folks. We’re talking about the scientific probability of global catastrophe up to and including extinction. No perceived benefit can outweigh that cost. There is no acceptable level of this kind of risk. https://t.co/SKrBH5RT0G

How old are you? 5? I’ve heard this shit since I was a kid. Get a hold of yourself. Everything will be fine.
— DC Dude (@DCDude1776) March 1, 2019
Stop this shit. I grew up in the 60's and 70's worried about nuclear annihilation because of scare tactics like this. This is a gross misuse of science for a partisan political cause.

“Scientific probability”
It’s an arbitrary prop
— Orange Muppet Energy (@sunnyright) February 28, 2019
It is literally a prop.
It’s a made up thing. https://t.co/tf8WDQvNXB

"Scientific"

They can move it forward or back whenever they want, it’s a gauge on a groups opinions and nothing more.

But isn’t there a “Doomsday Savings Time” where set the clock back one hour? No worries.— BeatleJuice (@sfranzese) March 2, 2019

Are their conclusions replicable under controlled experimentation, falsifiable, or able to predict actions? No? Then they are the opposite of scientific.

Except it isn't scientifically determined. They fully admit it is subjective. This is embarassing.

Narrator: "it's not scientific"
— JR (@jjreffy) March 1, 2019
But they pose in white lab coats standing next to it so it seems more scientific.
Probabilities are calculated mathematically, please show your work

I’ll give you 50 BTC if you show me the scientifically validated formula for moving the hands on the Doomsday Clock.
— SnowAF (@SnowAAF) March 1, 2019
Did you ever actually take a probability class prior to law school? There is nothing scientific in the determination of the probability (and zero scientific bases) for the arbitrarily determined time on the symbolic clock. Practice your onanistic fear-mongering on something else.

It didn't move during the Cuban missile crisis, so… I'm somewhat doubtful about the "science" of it

The doomsday clock is meaningless, dood. pic.twitter.com/Fru5DCLxpw
— Alexandria O’Clapback Cortez (@Chimp_HQ) March 1, 2019
As a scientist I feel obliged to tell you that just because someone with a degree in science says something that does not make it "scientific". I would also point out that the political/ ideological spectrum in the sciences is pretty darn narrow. Not a recipe for success…

How did people predict the end of the world before the doomsday clock was invented?
— GuaranteedEtern ???? (@GuaranteedEtern) March 2, 2019
But you know it's not a real thing, and that it's just set by humans based on how they feel, right?
— Joe Leamon (D-so I can get away with it) (@Joseph_Leamon) February 28, 2019
Oh, come on, we’ve already lived through six extinction-level events here in the U.S. in just the last 28 months. ????☠️??
— Dan (@DriveMeMild) March 1, 2019
It originated as a moral check on technological advancement to catastrophe.
It was reformed for climate change once it outlived its original purpose. Instead of disbanding, it rebranded for the egos of the people involved.
It's trafficking in past relevance
