Former Starbucks CEO and billionaire Howard Schultz is still teasing the idea that he might run as an Independent in 2020, and that has Democrats running scared, knowing very well that Schultz, who is no socialist, could very well siphon away significant votes from whichever far-Left candidate the Democrat party puts up to run against President Trump.
Jonathan Chait has a piece on Schultz’s internal polling that shows a run as an Independent would end up reelecting Trump, and also notes about Schultz that “everybody hates him.”
Howard Schultz's own polling shows his campaign would reelect Trump https://t.co/UrtjNFraId

… Every other demographic category has registered a catastrophically negative response. Change Research found Schultz’s favorable rating among the public is 4 percent, with 40 percent viewing him unfavorably, and the rest not knowing who this person is.
The poll even tested prompting respondents with favorable descriptions of Schultz — “Howard Schultz is a true American success story … He believes that the system is broken and there are extremists on both sides, and only an independent centrist can solve the problems that Republicans and Democrats refuse to fix.” — which nonetheless failed to coax more than 9 percent of the public to express support for Schultz’s campaign against any opponent.
If he’s polling so badly, Democrats shouldn’t be worried at all: their centrist platform of abortion up until and even after delivery, marginal tax rates of 70 percent or more driving entrepreneurs overseas, a government shutdown of the private health insurance industry, and open borders should really excite the public and Trump won’t have a chance.
Apparently, a lot of people think Schultz would run a losing campaign on purpose precisely to reelect Trump and thus keep his tax bill smaller.
Isn’t he doing this to keep his taxes from being raised….if so it’s working

The better to avoid higher taxes? Oh, the luxury of wasting money and good will for a smaller tax bill in the end
— Donald Lindeman (@Donald_Lindeman) February 4, 2019
That is the point of his candidacy.
— GBx (@gopalbx) February 4, 2019
That's what he wants. He wants to defeat a Democratic tax plan that taxes the rich.
— Carla Kjellberg (@kjellbs) February 4, 2019
You misspelled “punishes.”
That’s the game.
Even “socially liberal” plutocrats prefer a second Trump term to an actual leftist Democrat in office; Schultz is willing to run a kamikaze campaign if the DNC nominates a candidate he doesn’t like.

that's the point = threaten to raise tax rates and i'll sink you
he is using his money to decide what can be up for discussion
— me (@rightsaidmac) February 4, 2019
This is a win for him–no tax increase
— (((Patrick Burke))) (@pjb33burke) February 4, 2019
His potential run isn’t about 45 or the democrats, he’s running to protect the millionaires and billionaires club from Inevitability, paying their fare share in taxes. Nothing like good ole American greed and wealth.
— YouWokeNow (@YouWokeNow) February 4, 2019
Ya think?? He’s a very wealthy man who’s surrounded by other very wealthy men. The best way to stay obnoxiously wealthy is to keep the obscenely wealthy racist in office. Money can also buy the votes of a less than educated public. Put it all together.

He doesn't care. He wants to prevent a dem from winning so his taxes don't go up.
— Brian M. Branch (@branchi1292) February 4, 2019
And he would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for those meddling kids and their democratic socialism.
This guy is obviously nuts:
I have a great idea for the two major parties: do everything you can to embrace policy and voice ideas that are beneficial to the vast majority of Americans. Put forth a candidate that's genuine and embraces these ideals and it won't matter if there's 5 people on the ballot.
— DanK AF ???????????????? (@HalladayIn) February 4, 2019
Liberals really a panicked about an election almost 2 years away. If you weren't so batshit crazy, @HowardSchultz wouldn't have to consider an independent run. https://t.co/KyJ5JYonKz
