School children in Britain being taught that 'menstruation must be inclusive of all genders'

This story emerged in the U.K. Telegraph last Sunday, and the news hit Sky News in Australia on Friday, where a disbelieving host announces that school children in Britain are being taught that boys can have periods too.

The Telegraph reports:

School children will be taught that “all genders” can have periods in new sex education lessons, in a victory for transgender rights campaigners. The advice to teachers was approved by Brighton & Hove City Council as they try to tackle stigma around menstruation. The new advice follows a council report which said: “Trans boys and men and non-binary people may have periods”, adding that “menstruation must be inclusive of all genders”. Bins used for menstruation products will be provided in all toilets for children, according to the report.

So what drove the city council to take this step? The council said in a statement, “We believe that it’s important for all genders to be able to learn and talk about menstruation together… Our approach recognises the fact that some people who have periods are trans or non-binary.” The Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health has the council’s back, saying that primary school children should be taught about LGBT issues. We had serious doubts about Britain when police were posting photos of confiscated gardening tools, but this is a step beyond.

That’s not a bad idea; it’s inexpensive and quick to implement — like at Hampshire College, where they settled on “Restroom With Urinals” and “Restroom Without Urinals” door signs.
